Survey Finds Interest In SUV EVs Is Spiking (But There's a Side-Note) - #Short

A few years ago,, if you wanted to buy an electric car (and you couldn’t afford a Tesla Model X) you were pretty much stuck with an electric hatchback or sedan.

But in recent years there has been a major expansion in the number of all electric SUVs on the market. Now a study (paid for by Volkswagen) shows that consumer interest in electric SUVs is higher than ever before!

(But of course there’s a catch - context is king)

I'm going with a BYD electric vehicle when they go on sale in Australia in 2022 either the Tang SUV if I can afford it or the BYD EA1 Hatchback which if the hype is correct will be the cheapest EV sold in Australia rumoured to be around 35, 000 Australian dollars.

I have noticed the uptick in the number of EV commercials in the past couple of months Including the HFC hold out companies. With some states adopting no ICE mandates in the next decade it's understandable.

Well I am happy with my ID4 for the one week that I have owned it.

Our Forester is still too new to replace but at the moment there isn't a SUV EV in it's class yet. The ID4, Mach-e, etc. all seem to be about a foot longer and larger than we need. Can't wait to see what the next five years brings but there seems to be some interesting vehicles on the horizon.

Let me draw a scenario: if you live in the city, you park on the street or a public garage, so no place to plug every night, so you're not interested in EVs. Also coincidentally, your driving needs are less, because you live in an (european?) city, public transport is a thing.
On the other side, if you have a garage with a plug, you are probably in the suburbia, so you have a longer daily drive, but you can also comfortably feed an EV electrons nightly.

50% interest is huge, even if not all convert and end up buying an EV SUV. At that rate, the race is indeed between EVs and ICE vehicles much more than between EVs and EVs. The ICE age endeth.

What we need is higher range, less features and blings and loooww priced EV

Definitely interested for when some family members come into town.

I think the VW ID4 is less a SUV more a vehicle capable of carrying a 82kw battery pack without compromising the cabin or load space.

All we need to do now is to persuade SUV drivers that they will never drive off road, that it will always be less efficient that "standard" car formats, it has inverse Tardis space, poor driving dynamics due to height, more likely to roll over in an accident resulting in death, and us old people remember that we actually wanted to get away from the transit/bus sit up and beg driving position cos it was crap.
Never mind, that is far more difficult than persuading ICE driver to change to EV.

I need a mars rover considering the road condition but yeah an E Suv would do

The big thing will be more range. Good enough is not good enough. Once there are offerings with 500 miles of range at a full charge( 350 at 80% charge with a 10% reserve) at a decent price, that should be the point where SUV, and Van, EVs will be the better choice period over ICE for everyone including apartment dwellers and those without off-street parking.

People who drive more than 200 miles a week showed more interest in buying EVs? Huh, that's pretty interesting, range anxiety seems to be going away now with all the long range EV SUVs on or coming to the market

A word about VW's new "performance" model ID4, it's not a performance model, it's an AWD model, AWD inherently has more performance in EVs due to an extra motor and more horsepower. Is VW being shady again? The new AWD has a claimed 0-60 of 6.2, that's quick but it's not "performance." And I read the price may be about 60k, cmon VW don't let us down again.

Gas prices have anything to do with this?

I used to think that when most people accepted EVs, that would be a great day. But in reality, it signifies that electric car ownership is no longer progressive and has been taken over by conservatives as a way to supposedly deal with climate change without doing much at all.

It means that in my town it will allow the council to continue refusing to do anything to get more people cycling.

I don‘t like the shorts clogging up my timeline, maybe do a separate channel for them?
