So, for example, Queen Elizabeth had full custody of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, namely George, Charlotte and Louis. The rule was put in place because George I did not like George II and how they were raising the children. It is why there was no mention of custody of William and Harry when Charles and Diana divorced.
