Love your advice about learning phrases. I’ve been doing Duolingo for 2 years and have learned some French, but learning phrases in just three weeks allowed me to ask for a macaron at a farmers market.

That's exactly how I started learning French, one word per day, then two words per day and so on. I had told myself, " I will never learn this language in my life" when I cracked opened a French/English dictionary back in high school". However, now I'm practically fluent and I've gotten so good at listening, is like working out to stay in shape, the results come in months or years, but you keep it up because you know you're getting there. Above all, a genuine interest and passion are important. Merci beaucoup!

I feel like one of the best way to educate you ear is video books, songs, and reading. I struggled with English since 1997, in 2005 I moved to USA but I was still struggling in confidence to pronounce things. In 2019 I started ESL in my community college which it led me into reading a lot of books, listening to music, TV and or kindle book which are books with audio sound. Ever since I followed my professor advice I started gaining confidence when I speak... Remember lesson for life when it comes to learn languages. Currently I am learning French 🇫🇷 ❤️. This is my third language, counting my native language.

This is so true. I've been studying French for 4 years (intensively) i still can't speak 😂😂.
I never have spoken French in my life 🤣🤣but i understand 99%, and my passive vocabulary is sky rocketing. Without practicing, speaking it's so hard to learn a language.

Unfortunately in my country it is extremely rare to meet a french speaking person. I learn many french words by reading a lot, listening to tv. And watching french movies. My goal is to be able to read French classical works, such as camus, victor hugo, maupassant etc.

Sounds pretty much what I tell my students of music theory. Practice, practice, practice. Say it. Play it. Write it and do it again over and over. Love your way of teaching. Bravo.

Merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo ! Je viens de Hong Kong ! I think the strategy you advise is inspiring and it applies to all other languages apart from French.

Instead of writing random words down I think writing an essay about a topic(after reading about this topic) we are interested in is much more useful. And reading things aloud is useful too.

I've started journaling in French but I can't make up stories, so I translate songs instead. Thank you for the tips!

Je l'adore! I have been studying steadily for well over 2 years, but still not confident. One trick I use is just talking to myself about my day. Like narrating your actions.

As a native speaker french I have been learning English for 6 month ago.
It's still difficult for me to speak and to understand oral English. Your method to learn French is excellent and I 'm going to try to apply it to learn English. Thanks for this video. If I have make mistakes on writing, thanks to tell me about it

So very true, more words do not mean greater understanding of the language.

Excellent video! This is exactly my problem. I know many words in French but I have difficulty being comfortable putting them together into a conversation! This sounds like just the technique!

“Verified” was good and is partially synonymous with “corrected”

Those were some amazing tips! Thank you so much, that was honestly very helpful especially the aspect of looking at things long term. At least 1 word a day and you WILL make progress

Thanks for your video. I have been learning french myself for a bit over a year and your video has made me confident I'm learning correctly. I learn a new word that I can use in sentences and then in my mind during the day I make up lots of different sentences with that word. Thanks
