Speaker: Benjamin G. Ruddell, Director of Criminal Justice Policy for the ACLU of Illinois
Criminal justice reform issues are being debated throughout the country and LWVIL is asking our participation in creating a new position on criminal justice. ACLU has a broad criminal justice portfolio and a major focus since 2016, has been to end the use of money bond and reduce pretrial jailing in Illinois. Within the broad Coalition to End Money Bond, the ACLU is working to develop principles of a fair, constitutional and racially equitable system of pre-trial practices. Mr. Ruddell will also explain the benefits of much-needed comprehensive sentencing reform in Illinois.
