YMCA of Silicon Valley's Youth & Government Program

The goal of Youth & Government is to help high school youth become values-driven leaders in their communities. The program’s core purpose is exemplified in its motto: “Democracy Must Be Learned by Each Generation.”

Beginning in September, teens from the Silicon Valley YMCA delegation meet to decide how to solve the major issues facing California through the legislative and judicial process. Over the next six months, the teen delegates learn about and emulate the roles relating to state government. The program reaches its peak in Sacramento at the State Capitol, where the government moves over and the teen delegates take over by using the historic halls, chambers, and offices of our State Capitol, Supreme Court, and Governor’s Office.
