Dr. Gary Stager began teaching children to program computers nearly 40 years ago, led professional development in the first 1:1 “laptop schools" in 1990, created one of the world’s first online graduate programs in 1998, and co-authored what has become known as the bible of the maker movement in schools.

Despite being at the vanguard of interventions that may now be considered “on-trend,” Gary will make the case that innovation is the wrong objective for education, complete with perverse incentives, that do little to make the world a better place for kids. In this lively, provocative, and heartfelt presentation, Dr. Stager will share different scenarios for the future of education - ones that respect history, recognize the power of computing to amplify human potential, and prepare children to thrive in an uncertain future.

Gary, you continue to support progressive education and continue to make me question what we are doing to ensure that all children love learning for the sake of learning. Thank you for your presentation and I will share it with my faculty.
