This is one of the best lessons related to Canon’s autofocus settings. Thank you!

Thanks so much for this video!! The "Detect Only" function solved my issue. I hated the way my R8 would hunt for focus even if I didn't leave the frame. Thanks again!

I have created a playlist with every Canon specific focusing video for mirrorless cameras I could find.

This video is the only one I need.

Why in the hel* Cannon can't make a video like this is beyond me. I'm going to watch it enough times until it sinks in, then I can tweak the settings to my preference once and for all.

I'm also going to keep my two R6 MK IIs until they are just a natural extension of my body. So many times, people will blame the camera for poor focusing when it's the user and or settings. This leads to switching systems or buying the next model camera instead of learning the one they got and just investing in better glass.

Thank you very much!

AF on the r6ii is onething ive really spent alot of time studying it. i can give some tips.
-Lens drive when AF impossible its good to keep it ON. the camera would give up when it cant find AF, even if later the lighting gets better and it could've found the subject. so keep it ON always.
-for AF area by default there's a button near the joystick that brings up all the AF area, use the rate button to change the flexible zones sizes.
- in the camera 'AF' menu, Page 4, 'AF area selection control', use 'Button - Main dial. '. this would make switching AF area quick only using the scroll dial when AF button is pressed.
i change AF area alot even during recording because ive got alot of people in frame and i have to keep juggling who i want in focus in the same frame.

Hello, thank you for this video, it’s really helpful. I have a Canon R6, but I can't find the subject detect AF setting. Do you have any idea what settings I can use to achieve the same result? I really want the focus to stay on the subject, even if they move out of the frame. Thank you in advance.

So i switched over from the sony to canon and this definitely helped. I'm having issues when i'm doing a long walk and talk shot filming someone talking. I find that the tracking would jump elsewhere even though I have my setting on LOCKED ON. I can't seem to understand why that's the case. I'm sure its user error but it's so frustrating

Thanks a lot ! But i don't get the real difference between "SWITCHING TRACKED SUBJECT" and "MOVIE SERVO AF TRACK SENS". The explanation of Canon is not very clear🥵

Is "MOVIE SERVO AF TRACK SENS" just a "SWITCHING TRACKED ? 😅

In the manual :
"SWITCHING TRACKED SUBJECT" = the camera switches AF points to track subjects.
"MOVIE SERVO AF TRACK SENS" = You can adjust the tracking sensitivity.

I don't get the real differences...

But not your fault ! Awesome video 😀

On my R5 I don’t have subject detection AF or Tracking, Tracking only works on the first one and not on the other ones
