Momma grew up poor...bc a lot of these foods were in my pantry growing up, and I was definitely poor. You make the best of what you have. Sometimes I still have a hankering for foods from back then, so of course she does as well. ❤

I'm so proud of your mama. Its evident she grew up poor, but look at her now. Got a house and a professional job.

I am very familiar with potted meat, Vienna sausages and spam. It was a common staple for people who grew up in the poor south during the 1960s and 1970s, especially if there were a lot of kids in the home. Although I’m a millennial, My parents were apart of that era and every so often we would see spam, potted meat and Vienna sausages in our grocery cart or kitchen pantry

I mean this with no hate but it seems like mum was raised to eat whatever she was given or go to bed without dinner so now she's in a habit of making the best out of what she has in the cupboard ❤❤

Momma I grew up eating potted meat sandwiches...which is similar to that and every now and then I still have one. Fresh white bread, potted meat, mustard and chips takes me back to a simpler time ❤

She’s a survivor. Had to have grown up figuring ish out. Now she’s here to show us all that so long as you have something edible in the house, you can survive. No cooking or spices needed.

This has kept more students alive when broke than Mc Donald’s. Canned meat, Spam and Vienna Sausages with a loaf of bread was and still is a Feast.❤️🕊

When I was little my granny would make me mayonnaise sandwhiches. I loved them! It wasn't until I was older that I realized we were poor and she didn't have any meat. But granny made me think that sandwhich was special. I miss her everyday.
Potted meat, spam and vienna sausages were a staple in our house. We were poor, I just never knew it. I'm 60 now and I'd give anything to go back then for a spell. ❤

Your mother is subconsciously trying to reconnect with her Scandinavian roots.. this recipe that she eats is an Americanized version of a main staple food eaten in Norway, “Matpakke”

my granny used to eat braunschweiger, sardines, potted meat, and the sliced meat with like olives in it smh i used cringe all time. Now as an adult I've revisited all of them and can say don't knock it till you try it lol.

Lord, I am blessed to have grown up with a Latin mother with Spanish and Italian genes. We grew up poor but the food was always fresh and amazing. Having said that, I ❤that this woman gets in there and makes her food, it’s what she’s accustomed to and as long as it’s not negatively affecting her health then all the power to her! Josh your mama seems to enjoy being creative in the kitchen, why don’t you do a cooking course with her as a gift, I’m sure she’d love it.
