"Staubach was the first black quarterback".

As much as I loathe these comedians or other people not in the football industry giving insight, that was a good one.

Tarkenton and Bud Grant belong on this list ..If only for the fact that Tarkenton held ever NFL passing record when he retired..40 years later he is still top#12

I am glad that history will largely remember the Bills GOING to 4 straight Super Bowls rather than LOSING 4 straight Super Bowls. What an amazing achievement to win 4 AFC Championships like that. I was never a Bills fan but what a team they had!!

SO glad to see Otto Graham finally recognised for the incredible talent that he was. In my personal rankings, he's the third best QB of all time (and easily the most overlooked).

George Halas/Sid Luckman. Three championships together, (Halas didn't coach during WWII). Arguably the first to utilize the T-Formation effectively in the NFL in 1940. Not saying top 5 but they deserve a mention.

One thing that I believe is so underrated is the colors and uniforms of the QBs and teams on this list. From Marino and the tropical Aqua-Marine, to Joe Montana sporting that Cherry Red and Gold of the 49ers, then the Royal Blue, Silver and White of Roger and the Cowboys, its impossible to imagine any other teams with these players, even though a couple did play for other teams, but the colors and classic uniforms makes any list worth watching.

The fact that Len Dawson and Hank Stram aren't on this list is a complete travesty. They were a match made in heaven and Dawson was considered a bust before Stram took him in and molded him into the QB he ended up being.

Sean Payton and Brees not being on the list, despite the many valid options selected here, almost feels like a crime. These are two people that didn't just understand football, they understood a city and what they did meant so much more then just any game could be. On the field, Payton has been an aggressive coach, as evidenced by his decision to go for it on 4th down against the Eagles last week up 31 to avoid a comeback. And Brees, known for his accuracy, has always been aggressive downfield. Never more was this more apparent then the decision to go for an onside kick in the superbowl; it epitomizes their relationship as passer and coach to a T. This is a duo that when you put it in perspective, the Saints organization to put it midly had never known more then fleeting success, and these two turned this into a competitive organization year in and out.
"Payton has always been known for his offensive prowess, having scored more points (2, 804) and gained more yards (40, 158) than any other team in a coach's first 100 games in NFL history."
Brees was a good QB with San Diego before his injury. With Payton, he's become a true hall of famer and has earned the right to be in that best ever discussion for any football player period.
Again, so many of these choices on this list are obvious, no brainers, and yet as I stared into this comment section, the more I realized just how much we take this Payton/Brees combo for granted.
