Показать описание
These apocalyptic images, are of the Steam locomotives of the Sandaoling coal mine in China, at night the steam locomotives are a rolling fireworks display, shooting fiery red coal sparks and giant cloud of steam into the air.

After sunset the locomotive illuminates the countryside, in a fiery glow, while pulling a long train of box cars filled with coal up a steep grade, as the steam engine works at maximum.

The Sandaoling Coal Mine is located 80 Km from Hami in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of North West China

Thanks for watching

At just over 63k pounds of Tractive Effort, the QJ is no slouch. It has nearly 10k pounds more Tractive Effort than souther railways 4501, which has successfully pulled excursions across the Tennessee valley for 2 decades. It has only 17k pounds less Tractive Effort than N&W Railway No. 611, which can pull 20+ cars with ease. The QJ is most definitely a powerful locomotive. The reason they are looked at as underpowered is because of their HP output, putting out between 2, 900 and 3, 500 horsepower, a fraction of Diesel Electric locomotives built today. You can’t measure steam in horsepower, it doesn’t actually amount to the actual amount the locomotive is capable of carrying. I mean, look at the Iowa Interstate QJ’s, or the R.J. Corman QJ’s.

Always found these "modern" steam engines cool. Mainline steam was only recently discontinued in China. There are even videos that show Class QJ's pulling modern intermodal container trains. Luckily a couple QJs and SJs were purchased by the Iowa Interstate railroad and are in operating condition (though none are currently running.)

"Aren't very powerful" ?!
Amazing footage and a very well put together video, but the power and traction in play to do what those engines are capable of is absolutely immense.

as long as diesel remains high priced sandaoling will use their stream trains, they invested in a really nice workshop in the early 2000s that is capable of rebuilding these trains from the ground up. they mix the steam in with the diesel trains to bring down the operating cost

🌺 I think the old loco's 🚂 are a thing of beauty & should be kept on the tracks for as long as possible, ⏳Imo.. 👀 All of them "especially" the older ones.🤗🎈👍

Heh heh, reminds me of a old Danish childrens' song, that goes something like this in English :
"Choo choo choo-train, driving thru the night.
Going to the old man in the moon, with fire and smoke in the hat".

("Futte-futte-futtog, kører gennem natten,
til den gamle månemand, med ild og røg i hatten")

... если не вдаваться в детали, сам факт того, что эти локомотивы работают - вызывает изумление))))

These loco’s have no consciousness but somehow I’m feeling sorry for them for working and been pushed so hard

Could you imagine that loco in Australia on a total fire ban day?

It's sort of beautiful, even if it's polluting. It's a pity to see it completely gone, I wish there was a way to let at least one or two survive.

It's interesting to see that one technology is touted as old and dangerous, produces dangerous gasses and all therefore it must be stopped. Sure! Everyone feels safe and happy except, there are MODERN comforts that are doing far worse. Heck even the transition to the much desired electric car is going to do far worse in such a short time. But it doesn't matter. The pollution is not in our backyards. What matters is that we'll have the opportunity tò lecture the rest of the world on how we reached our zero emissions targets "successfully".

“Not very powerful” they’re only 2-8-2s, but they can make about 2, 800 horsepower, and they’re only 75 feet long.

I wonder why China never made much changes, if they were going to use these for so long!

How come the "hauled" coal did not catch on

makes perfect sense, why bother trucking in loads of diesel fuel when you have a steady supply of coal on hand? All they need to worry about is water and maintenance.
