Two titans of UK science policy share insights into their careers in global health and anecdotes of life advising the UK government.
Dame Sally and Professor Whitty have both advised the UK government through key international health challenges, including the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance, the structure of WHO and the changing role of the UK on the world stage.
In this personal discussion, they share insights into their careers and stories of providing advice on international health issues in Whitehall, and reflect on the future of science and health policy.
Professor Dame Sally Davies DBE FRS FMedSci is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England and Chief Medical Advisor to the UK government. She has previously served as Chief Scientific Adviser in the Department for Health.
Professor Chris Whitty CB FMedSci is Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and Professor of Public and International Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has previously served for six years as the Director of Research and Evidence at the Department for International Development (DFID)
