Sleep in the tent on a rainy day

My Dad would always put a huge tarp over the entire campsite and whenever it rained I would always have the best sleep. The last time we camped together was 20 years ago and the sound of rain still helps me sleep.

Summer of 2019 - I did three stretches where I camped for a week straight. On the last stretch, I had three nights of rain and thunder in a row, but I had set up tarps above and below the tent. I fell asleep to the pitter patter on the tarps, hearing thunder in the distance. Despite the rain, I was nice and dry, and a solid day of sun took care of the tarps to dry. Whats also really nice, when you are amongst the pines, and a breeze blows through, causing the tent to sway slightly and you hear a slight whistle through the pine needles. Camping ain't for evryone, but for me, I find by the second day, I stop thinking about work, I sleep very well, and my concerns narrow to the immediate. I've found a sweet spot of what to take, where to camp, and how long to go. I never regret going.

This reminds me of when I went to stay in my hybrid camper on March 19 . I was in the middle of the woods in North Florida. I was only going for three days and then I got the call that I would be laid off for three months due to Covid..I stayed there the entire time it truly was a blessing . Each end of my camper is a pop out bed, so it was like sleeping in a tent. I got to watch the fire flies dance at night, the owls hoot, the chickadees and the crows would wake me up in the morning.. I found myself profoundly healing. I became so in tune with myself the land and animals around me I’ve never been so much at peace. I’m sending anyone reading this blessings and love🥰

Especially the odd stray drop which lands heavier and the pace of the rain suddenly starts to speed up the ebb away which is EXACTLY what happens.

Fun fact: the sound of rain is soothing to us because natural predators tend to avoid hunting during the rain, and humans have evolved to associate the sound of rain with safety from these predators.
