Chest voice vs fry. Rachmaninov challenge

I sing the Rachmaninov challenge a bit lower. I show the main (as for me individually) difference when using natural modal voice and fry. Also I realize some people have very well trained fry or mix which I don't use so mine is very bad.

I finally broke my voice at 18. And turned into a profundo bass

Also would love to see a video of you using your full voice.
So us viewers can see where ur voice naturally transitions to mix-head

Real deep basses are extremely rare even on youtube

I'm not sure about the larynx positions and all that, but there is one telltale difference I've noticed over my years of being an aficionado of bass singing that is helpful for telling the difference between chest and fry (at least in their pure forms). You've actually showcased it here in this video.

One is that chest voice, especially down low, has a good amount of "press" or heaviness to it. Even when I've heard recordings of someone sing the octave above in chest voice and then digitally octave the recording of that note down (DonSchanteloni on YouTube did this), it still has that heaviness to it, so even if the lower second octave is in someone's tessitura, it'll still have that same bottom heavy feel to it that is noticeable on any speaker or set of headphones capable of putting out the fundamental at a significant enough level.

Fry, on the other hand, sounds very thin, throaty and weak and without any type of heaviness or support to the sound. It can have low end added onto it via live or studio EQ to make it sound "bassy", but when sang unamplified this distinction is obvious.

Of course, the difficulty for me is knowing exactly when fry starts to mix in with someone's chest voice as it's different for everybody. Plus, it's harder to tell the difference below the upper to mid first octave.

Lastly, some people already have a lot of bright overtones in their voice even though they've got very low ranges, so in those cases it's especially helpful to listen for that telltale heaviness or lack thereof to determine their register. For instance, Tim Riley has a timbre that's kind of a hybrid between a tuba and a piano, but you'll always notice that "press" sound in his lower notes that indicates chest voice.

Beautiful voice and vibrato!!!
Also, the difference between chest voice and fry is in the color and ressonance.
Chest voice brings more weight, color, ressonance and support rather than fry does, which has the sound of a creaky door and a bubble pop.

I noticed that fryless notes sound airy and dark. My currently lowest note in this concept is about 1 octave above than my mixed lowest chest note.

It makes me think that not anyone (basso) can actually use only chest to play a 1st octave note if they speaking voice are not "restricted" to it.

Perhaps I didn't hear properly, but the chest voice sounded warmer. I am not sure how I did it but I got down to A flat 2. I am a Baritone. Normally I can't get down that low.

I just got really relaxed even I think the soft palate and let it go up. I was using a website that calculates vocal range. When the prompt asked for my lowest note, I just thought low, really low.

I know for the A flat 4, I blended falsetto with my regular voice mixing head and chest. I am new to voice study. I have studied voice for only 2 years. It didn't hurt singing high or low not during or after. If asked, I can do it again, both high and low. Other than relaxing every muscle associated with singing, I haven't a clue how I hit that low note. I know I wasn't doing vocal fry. I Will bring it up at my next voice lesson.

I've always preferred chest voice. It sounds more natural and has a more "bass" timber than fry.

Damn you're pretty much a profondo. Just out of curiosty, Do you have difficulty frying above Bb1?

is it normal to fry up to an A1 if my lowest chest is f2-e2?

You sound like you are either a very heavy bass or even a basso profondo, IMO. What's your lowest modal note?

You have an amazing voice.

But ill need to correct you.
Vocal fry doesnt mean a higher larynx position. Maybe your not used to doing it that way and you dont need to given your chest voice is so low

Anyways just a small correction.

😮, are you sure you aren't the lowest chest voice in the world? I had never seen a talking voice like that

The a1 chest is chestfry and pretty much everyone uses that for low notes and if anything is a testament to your lung capacity and control
