New Horizons [Extended Version]

Ready to explore Pluto? NASA’s New Horizons — the fastest spacecraft ever created — will speed past Pluto on July 14, 2015, beaming back high resolution photos (and invaluable data) of the dwarf planet’s surface for the first time in human history.

We, the members of the National Space Society, believe exploring the unknown for the betterment of all is among humanity’s most essential pursuits. We honor the historic New Horizons mission by commissioning the inimitable Erik Wernquist to create this video.

This extended version of the video features a scene about the planets in history. See a high quality version here:

I like to go back to this video, at least a few times a year, I have no idea how the authors managed to do it, but I feel that every time I watch it, it impresses me even more. It's hard to put it into words.

One of the best space exploration videos out there! I still come back time and time again - exceptional music.

8 years ago tomorrow! While we take the images we have now for granted, think about all of the effort that went into getting those images. It’s truly mind-blowing how much we have progressed since the agricultural revolution about 12, 000 years ago…

Here’s to the men and women who made this possible, and here’s to the next 12, 000 years!

The music, graphics, narration, and captions all come together in the Highest Qualitative way to make this superb video perhaps the best ever done on the exploration of Space. Thank you to The NSS from a now old astronomer and artist!

I remember that back in 2015, I stole some words from this video to start my "Planetary Exploration" presentation for English class in high school. I got 10/10 that time.

"Since the beginning of history the points of light in the sky have captivated us, particularly those special ones who mysteriously seem to wander: we call them planets."

When i watch this video i cry...
How few resources employed in science!
How many resources destroyed in war and army and military industry!

This video is also a great achievement. Almost cry each time I rewatch. Big sound, 3 meter picture, that rocks. The truth is way more critical than any fiction. the Universe don't care about us and nothing will save us. We must take control of our destiny. Our time is pivotal, the duration of civilisation will be short or long : we might still be able to decide.

Mariner 4 (Mars, 1965)
Pioneer 10 (Jupiter, 1973)
Mariner 10 (Mercury, 1974)
Pioneer 11 (Saturn, 1979)
Voyager 2 (Uranus, 1986 & Neptune, 1989)

Such an amazing video, if I would have seen a video like this as a kid it absolutely would have motivated me in school to do something involving space. I just hope this video does the same for kids now and push them into the sciences. There is an infinite amount left to explore, and we haven't even begun to take one small step.

I wish from somewhere Clyde Tombaugh can see how humans finally reached the last planet in the solar system.
