Making power with a dirty tune is dumb.

A clean tune increases power without increasing emissions and therefore does not over-tax the emissions systems including the DPF. While a rich (smokey) tune can give you a temporary burst of power, the puff of unburnt fuel is captured in the DPF, resulting in increased regen frequency. The more time the truck is spent in regen, the less time it's spent making full power.

As manufacturers improve modern turbo diesels, the engines produce less in-cylinder emissions which means the after-treatment systems like the DPF, the DOC, and the SCR can be made less restrictive. Understanding how the DPF and regens work is a major part of tuning diesel engines safely and keeping the emissions system functioning properly.

For a clean tune that doesn't harm your DPF check out Banks Derringer

Seeing an efficient diesel launch with zero soot always warms my soul because that means that tuner knows what he was doing.

i think the mistake here is assuming that anyone with a dirty tune has emissions intact

Just think about what all that "Rollin coal" is doing to your cylinder sleeves, rings, and when some of that gets past your rings and into your oil..

Rolling coal may make a diesel owner feel hot, but they are only showing they are cold turds.

Why anyone wants to dump unburned fuel is beyond me.

But Gale blowing black smoke is cool! - said nobody who knows what their doing ever.

Not only that, another disadvantage to having all that black soot coming out of the pipes is that you're wasting money. That's money. That's fuel that isn't getting completely burned. Not only that, but you're washing down the cylinder Walls with diesel fuel instead of engine oil which also means the rings are going to get cooked. Meaning that the rings will not seal as well to the cylinder walls and you will lose compression and then you will lose power and eventually if it keeps up long enough this will happen and continues. It can get as bad as the engine will be hard to start. And when it does run it will down on power considerably

Bold of you to assume the guys with that type of tune still have any of their factory emissions equipment installed 😂

I hate rolling coal. If i get on my 5.9 it will puff some. It is stock. Not even a upgraded air horn.

I have full power 100% of the time… in my first gen Cummins 12V. 😊

"Rolling coal" is a pretty dumb problem to have.
But so is having a "reg-gen cycle".
Get rid of both these problems, and our diesels will be great again!

Meanwhile I dont see any banks dirsel rigs breaking records at the races.

No wonder pre def trucks are going for $30k.

Ya cause everyones emmisions are still in tact right?

Used to be when a diesel was black stacking thick and losing RPMs fast, it was working hard and it was time for a different gear. It was a signal to change your operating to keep the work moving. Didn't matter if it was a Semi, a Dozer, a farm tractor, you were losing.
Detroit Diesels made lots of power without blocking the Sun out in stock tune. No such thing as a diesel too lean.

Pay attention to Banks diesel tuning .

More fuel and less air just kills your gas mileage.

If an engine is tuned and maintained properly for what it's designed to do then it is operating in it's most efficient state so adding 90% of the requirements from the EPA is a crock of sh*t. Pumping in cow urine to make solids instead a gas or capturing in a particle filter is just a temporary fix to pass air quality test and doesn't do anything for the contaminates but just the opposite by taking more resources to produce. Back when everything was mechanical and not electronically controlled then you turned up the fuel and rolled coal on big trucks but it serves a purpose. Rolling coal nowadays just proves that you are a poser and not in it for the performance. Gale Banks has spent his entire life making power effectively and for durability. His products cost more for a reason...he spends countless hours on development of the products.

My 04 cummins only smokes on a quick spool up and cleans out instantly. I’m glad I don’t have a useless tune. Smoking through your entire rpm range makes you look like a fool.

Regens don’t matter because most people wanting power are deleted. There’s a difference between a dirty tune and a power tune. Dirty tunes are designed just for smoke and to show off. Power tunes can sometimes be Smokey down low but are meant to be responsive and mostly smoke free when the turbo is spooled. You’ll never have a smoke free truck that is responsive and spools fast.
