Is the Weapon X Premium Format Price Increase a Collector's Nightmare?

I think the new Weapon X Premium Format from Sideshow is incredible, but the price point revealed this week has left many collectors feeling burned!

Sideshow presents the Wolverine: Weapon X Premium Format™ Figure, a fearsome Marvel collectible which explores the hero’s death-defying origins.

Measuring 25.25” tall, 14.13” wide, and 10.88” deep, the Wolverine: Weapon X Premium Format Figure shows Logan as he endures the excruciating procedure which gave him an Adamantium skeleton. Suspended in an underwater tank, Department K’s latest test subject grits his teeth while he writhes in agony. Sharp sprues and tubes protrude painfully from all over Wolverine’s bare body, injecting an indestructible steel alloy to fuse to his bone structure — including the claws which extend from the feral mutant’s aching knuckles.

This fully sculpted X-Men collectible depicts Wolverine as the survivor and pillar of strength that fans know him to be. Inspired by his transformation into a living weapon, the entire piece blends elemental and industrial aspects through sculpted water, wires, and the aggravated skin marred by infusion ports which force liquid metal to permeate his skeleton. The Marvel statue also includes light-up features beneath the clear-cast bubbles, giving it an eerie and exciting ambiance that will stand out on every shelf. From the circular tank base to Wolverine’s wild hair, every detail emphasizes the pain and peril of Wolverine’s journey into becoming a super hero.

The Exclusive Version of the Wolverine: Weapon X Premium Format Figure comes with an alternate, swap-out helmeted portrait with a light-up red visor. Large, medical, and mechanical, the helmet — and Wolverine’s animalistic snarl underneath — highlight another aspect of the extreme brutalization and torture he experienced at the Weapon X facility.

Experiment with your collection and add the Wolverine: Weapon X Premium Format Figure to your display today!

It feels like the golden era of statue collecting is over. We can only hope that the community vote with their wallets.

Hope all is well, Chris. Yeah, unfortunately I have to say I’m being pushed out of the hobby. I thought Ghost Rider was high, but looked somehow justified with the entire light-up. I’ve been cutting down on watching the channel, as it’s sometimes a reminder of what I’m missing, but like to check in every now and then. This statue is wonderful, but $1k for a PF is kinda the final straw for me. At least for now. Congrats to you all who still enjoy the game. Take care.

As a group we probably need to stop doing the RSVP. These companies see those numbers and decide there is demand and up the prices.

I can’t believe I waited for 9 months for this reveal only to see them come up with this. And at that price?! I have the xm weapon x and that is miles better.

Sideshow were the last company to charge reasonable prices. They held out the longest.

I realise a lot of their bigger, or more elaborate statues were over 1k, but a taller 1/4 Wolverine, with a few bits of translucent OVER for many I suspect.

Really think Sideshow’s original work is going to be more popular to save on hundreds of dollars per piece for the licensing cost.

Vampire’s lust is much more intricate and $300 less!

Looking at the statue, I think it’s due to the translucent bubbles and probably all the wiring that they had to do in order to get that exclusive portrait. I also think that Marvel probably upped the license fee as well.

price point completely kills it. It's a firm nope from me. Not for 1/4th.

I agree that this feels like a money grab. I am an X-Men collector and I was very interested in this one and am now having second thoughts. Anyone considering this piece was thinking about how they were going to put a dome on it. I agree that at this price it should just have the dome. It is not a diorama, but even with that argument you then have to compare it to Phoenix $980, Rogue/Gambit $750, fastball special $750. Sure, the 1/4 scale fastball is $1050 but you get two 1/4 scale figures with that piece. This should be $750 like the Beast piece which includes an intricate base and highly engineered sculpt like this one.

Their big Wolverine statue they just came out with is significantly cheaper and has a light up feature and is much larger. 🤔

So it’s up to the price of Prime1 and the rest of the statue manufacturers. Let’s face it, $600-$700 is dirt cheap for a 1/4 scale licensed statue, unlicensed anime statues are up to that price now.

I couldn’t believe they were able to offer their statues for $650, it was shocking to me.

This feels like an $850 piece. $200 too high IMO!

At this price point, they should've shown a low limited ES.

I agree, it needs a tank feature to give the full effect. However the price for this is only for the higher end collector.

I already signed up to get It and make my deposit. It is more expensive than I expected. But it’s cheaper than the custom one with the tank.

I think your right. If it was in a box or dome with translucent water it would have been worth a Grand. To pay a grand for it just like that is a bit much. It's a really nice piece and it is 26 inches in height but it looks incomplete without it being surrounded by water. Light up feature is a nice touch as well but in my opinion would have nailed it in water. I would buy the old XM studio version over this one. Thx for the review. 😎

When they revealed the price for the Darth Vader Mythos PF, I thought it was just because of the license and because they knew the statue would be popular, as lots of people want 1/4 Mythos. But really it looks like they are just going to greatly increase their prices across the board, that sucks for sure

It’s about choice. What the customer is willing to pay will always be final cost. Sometimes it’s your business…

SS is starting to piss many of us off. And also some creators that don’t tell it how it is and simply giving them publicity. I’ve always liked SS statues, I own a few I’m from the good old days. But now these prices are crazy. P1 has high prices too but they are from Japan and have to ship over seas plus the sculpt from P1 is much better.

Careful SS you’re starting to fly too close to the sun

Def seems like SS is raising the price due to the likely popularity of this one. I just don’t see where the extra cost is coming from from a quality perspective on this one. It’s a great piece for sure but it’s not like Ghost rider light up type of value. The light up is rather weak on this one actually. Almost reminds me of the Green Lantern light up which was so weak it might as well not of existed. But it’s a bit better than that.

Agree with you that it should have the dome. Big miss imo on that. At least to have the option of the dome woulda been nice.

Their 1/3 Wolverine didn’t even cost this much so it’s very odd and seems even more like a deliberate high price to cater to the hardcore people.
