John Mayer Tones: Klon into TS or TS into Klon?

This is, by far, the most frequently asked question I get: should I go TS into Klon or Klon into TS?
So I wanted to tackle this by showing as best as I could the differences you get by switching the order of these classic JM drive pedals.
I used two Ceriatone Centuras and a TS10 and also the great Nordvang Gravity, which allows for order switching between these

Great work 👏 As ingredients in the stew of almost-roaring soul-shaking Strat tone, Klon into TS10 is my favourite. I prefer the ‘voice’ and character of the TS10, so usually place it last in chain. Both pedals are so good in their own right for this style of music. Paired together, with a Strat and a Fender-style amp, they are life-affirming, but they’re also fantastic into a Marshall style amp with a good Les Paul.

For the Mayer thing I do prefer Klon into TS. It's generally the combination of a lot of those key tones we all reference. That said, I actually prefer the TS into Klon when starting to skirt outside of the traditional Mayer sound and playing more just doing my own thing. Going Down with the Stones might be my favourite Mayer tone ever, and that isn't the "traditional" sound. That performance made me believe in TS into Klon, before I thought it was blasphemy 😂

I think ultimately BB - TS - Klon is a great way go get both the TS pushed sound and the Klon pushed sound. Great demo my man!

I put my Klon before a TS808 and the tones I get are insane. They do work really well together.

Got to say I thought the clarity of the Nordvang was better than the original TS10 and the Centura, just like a HD version of the original, very impressed 👏

Great video man. I have two tube screamers on my board and i placed the klon right between the two. They're both modified versions of tube screamers. The one before the klon has the gain set at 12 o'clock and the one after has the gain set at 3 o'clock.

My go to has been TS into klon and if I want the main OD sound to come from the TS I just use a blues driver before it for more of a trio tone

TS into klon sounds incredible. But I'm more fond of that Billy gibbons type thing lol. It really just depends on what you're playing, at 2:49 the klon into ts sounds great. I think for rythym ts into klon and for lead parts klon into ts.

I am about to build efectslayouts new Kentauride which is TS into Klon, But I’m going to add a order switcher. Sounds like I prefer Clon into TS.

Great video, thanks! Strangely, i liked klon into TS a lot more with you videos, but in my setup (TS9 and generic klon clone) I went for the opposite, sounded better to me.

Awesome sounds, try turning the tone knob down a hair on the klon when it’s placed after the tubescreamer it will sound way better and less harsh, I think 2 klons sound better, or a Timmy and a klon !

I prefer the tube screamer before the klon both sound great though I just think it’s easier to get the volume I want by setting the klon kinda clean as an always on pedal and boosting it with the tube screamer
