Guardian TV Ep. 3: Song Selection & Remixes with Blind Guardian

2012 was Blind Guardian's 25th anniversary. One way to celebrate this special occasion was the release of "Memories of a Time to Come" in January 2012.

Leading up to the release, Guardian TV was introduced. The third episode features Hansi and André talking about song selection and remixes.

Clocking in at 4 minutes and 36 seconds, episode 3 of Guardian TV answers the following questions:

1. What was the idea behind the release of "Memories of a Time to Come"?

2. Who is "Memories of a Time to Come" primarily directed at? Is it a collector's piece for your faithful supporters or an introductory package for new fans?

3. In view of the countless classics in your back catalogue it must have been difficult to decide upon the tracklist for this album. What was the selection process like?

4. The songs aren't arranged in chronological order, which criteria did you use to decide their sequence?

5. What were the stipulations for the remix of the songs?

6. You're known for your perfectionism in the studio. How much work was involved in the remixing process?

Well, if you ever read this here it comes: Memories of a Time to Come definitely works as an introduction to your music. I'd heard about you before, even listened to some song (Can't remember which one) but it never really caught me off. Then, last spring I read the Wheel of Time book series, and after discovering your song "Wheel of Time" and "Ride Into Obsession" which I both really liked, I found MoaTtC and really started listening to your music.

I absolutely love the new cd and I look forward to actually being able to find it here in the USA, hehe. I think everything about it's great although I was really surprised that Banish From Sanctuary wasn't on it.

@kerajit

But Guardian has released 9 Albums and don't forget that little bit non-Album Stuff. [Place a bad word of your choice in here], everything Guardian is BEST OF!

I loved how raw and aggressive the remixes/re-recorded songs sounded. I was expecting the new album to follow the same line, but it was such a letdown that they've returned to the overproduced arrangements.

What I don't understand is why the hell they included the song "Follow the Blind" on the album. It isn't anywhere near one of their best songs. If they wanted to include a song from that record (other than the re-recorded "Valhalla") on this album then why not go with the more obvious fan-favorite track, "Banish From Sanctuary?" "Follow the Blind" is a very weak track.
