Man, those early explodey head moments with Hinata's panic all the way to the "take it easy" vs Inarizaki really show the growth of his presence of mind

Just assuming here, but the reason Shimizu and Suga told Daichi "good job" was probably because they saw how relieved he was that everything worked out in the end — getting highly competitive Hinata and Kageyama on the team, having them cause a ruckus right from the start and then coming up with a way to make them at least tolerate each other on the court was all likely smth unexpected and a lot to handle for another high-schooler, even a captain, but he managed!
The events from S1 to S4 (excluding flashbacks) cover the events between April 2012 — January 2013, so just under 1 year. April is when the current first-years enrolled in Karasuno (so right now), the very beginning of January is when Spring tournament takes place.
As for the tournaments, in Haikyuu we're concerned with just 2 main ones per season (there's some more but they don't make much of an appearance): Inter-High and Spring tournaments. Both tournaments have prelims within prefectures and then national stages, so "Nationals" can refer to either of the tournaments.
1. Inter-High is the first big tournament of the season covered in S1. Prelims in Miyagi start in June (so just 2 months after the new first-years come), Nationals are in August (which we didn't see since Karasuno lost to Seijou).
2. Spring High is the second big tournament of the season covered in S2. There's some prefectural qualifiers in August, prelims in October, and then Nationals right after New Year in January.
Depending on your results in either of the tournaments, you can become a seeded team for a certain stage of the next one (say, if you do well in Inter-High, you get to skip some of Spring High's qualifiers).
Hope this helps!

At 16:28, I didn't see it as just Kags respecting Suga. I think it's also cz Kags wants to make sure that Suga doesn't resent him for replacing Suga as the setter, since that is what started Oikawa's hatred towards him. I think this is Kags checking to see that he's on good terms with Suga.

20:17 oh wow, I totally missed that Hinata being a middleblocker was a decision that had Kageyama involved. I've watched this show and so many reactions and I still find new things lol.

I feel like the relationship and dynamic between Kageyama and Suga is super under appreciated. Without Suga I don’t think Kageyama would have been able to change as quickly. So even though Hinata is the one he changed for, Suga sparked the change of mindset in Kageyama.

"Eat your dinner properly". I love how Coach Ukai worryied about the team nutrition even before he became his coach

34:30 Just to add, that white, big piece of paper above his head is actually the training schedule. So yeah, he is very dedicated and goes ways beyond others.

6:34 and 11:33 -- Tsukki taking off his sweater cos it's serious business, and Daichi recognizing that Tsukki cared enough to play a bit more seriously.

Love how this moment (particularly the take-off sweater scene) is brought up by Daichi in Season 2 during the training arc with the Tokyo schools. The episodes when Tsukishima's backstory comes to light. Daichi says in season 2 that ever since this 3 on 3 match, he was never particularly worried about Tsukki, most likely sensing that Saltyshima did have the inner fire, it just needed to be stoked. Just a fun nugget i reflected on only just recently \o/

22:38 "I don't see Daichi here"

Sawamura is Daichi's last name.

The girl calls him that at 28:09

Something small that I didn't notice until my like 10th rewatch or so, right after they all get their warm up gear you can see Tanaka showing Hinata & Kageyama in the background how to pose haha with Yamaguchi practicing off to the side also 😄😄 it's a really cute thing to notice

I wonder which one of the club members went and told everyone about Hinate and Kageyama knocking the wig off of the principals head. My guess is on Tanaka

So, season 1 to 4 all happen within the same school year. (THIS IS GONNA BE FILLED WITH SPOILERS IF YOU CAN'T ALREADY TELL. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK)
The first years join the club in April.
The inter-high prelims happens in June (that's the end of season 1) This is also where third years make the decision to stay on the team instead of focusing on entrance for college and stuff.
Then training camp in July.
Then the Spring Interhigh National Tournament Miyagi Qualifying Rounds happen in August (That's the first half ish of Season 2).
Then the actual spring inter-high qualifier happens in October, against Johzenji, Wakutani and Seijoh (that's the rest of season 2).
Then ofcourse Season 3 is the finals of the qualifiers for Nationals against Shiratorizawa, also in October.
After that is the Youth Camps in December. (That's the first half of season 4).
And finally, Nationals. They've only played 2 matches in Nationals, against Tsubakihara and Inarizaki. (That's the end of Season 4)

Concerning that comment about Kageyama in the beginning. I always thought his behavior in middle school disagreed with how he acted in high school because outside of the court he is pretty quiet and respectful. But when you read the manga till the end (way beyond it is animated so far) you learn he had another reason to be vulnerable and lash out at people at that time.

It's hard to say if Furudate-sensei had it in his head from the beginning and just shared it near the end of the manga, or added it to make him an even more deep and rounded character. But Furudate-sensei also admitted in an interview, as far as I remember, that Kageyama's rants in middle school were channeling their own disappointment when they were a player and their teammates seemed not to be serious about volleyball.

Every time I rewatch Haikyuu from S1, I love Suga more and more! Always amazed by how observant he is to understand Kageyama’s concerns and Hinata’s anxiety. We audiences can see all the flashbacks and build-up, but Suga had met them for just a few days. The fact that Suga could immediately tell how traumatizing the past was for Kageyama by his words about “trust”, and how big and stressful the match was for Hinata by his experience is really amazing!

BTW, it’s interesting to see Suga being more and more bright and open (and funny sometimes) throughout the four seasons. At the beginning, he seems to be so gentle and mild, and as the whole Karasuno team becoming closer, another side of Suga came out, and I think that’s really cute 🥰.

Ennoshita played as starting WS before Asahi was back, and I didn’t notice that either when I watch the first time (Ennoshita was too inconspicuous at the beginning LOL, sorry Ennoshita). Actually, when coach Ukai decided the starters for the tournament and Asahi found that Ennoshita wasn’t on the list, he felt a bit sorry for Ennoshita about that at that time. (*FUN FACT*: “Ennoshita縁下” means “inconspicuous place” and his first name “Chikara力” means “strength/support”, so he’s meant to be that unnoticed 😂. His name is derived from a proverb “縁の下の力持ち”, people who support in inconspicuous places, an expression like “unsung heroes”.)

Hey Coach, thank you for the awesome reactions!

Just wanted to jump and clear up a potential misconception. You mentioned that Karasuno won at the National Tournament, but the Inarizaki match in Season 4 wasn't actually the finals - the tournament will continue in Season 5!

The cookie story cracked me up. These personal stories that you remember when you relate to a show/movie is something I love.

10:10 Production I.G baby, the titans of TV anime. The standard they've created with some of their shows is crazy, especially in the sports genre. TV shows often have a smaller production scope compared to movies obviously, but Production I.G just shattered that reality the moment Haikyuu stormed the internet. 3 Seasons of literally this 10:10. It's insane. Kuroko no Basket and Haikyuu are great examples, but there's also a fantastic sports show made by that same studio, called Run with the Wind. It's about running, and what it means to run. the presentation is just as amazing compared to haikyuu. No one does the genre better than them.

As a wise man once said, “Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source.” I think this rings true for Kageyama and his deep sense of pride from being told he’s so talented.

I can't tell you how much I love seeing that glimmer of knowing in your eyes this second time around as opposed to a confused look. It's fun to watch a first timer too, no doubt. But now we both know what's up and feel the same hype. Carry on!
