Contrary to the company's claims, still extinct. There are approximately 12 million DNA differences between Gray Wolves and Dire Wolves. Colossal states that they made 20 edits in the Gray Wolf genome, which means only a tiny amount (fewer than one in 100, 000) of the Dire Wolves' genetic differences have been replicated. Bottom line: These are Gray Wolf puppies that have had a trivial number of genetic edits made that may make them superficially resemble Dire Wolves as they grow. But to call them Dire Wolves is a tremendous stretch.
