I'm thrilled that this was about their character! Tilney only, everyone else can get off the list. I suppose Edward Ferrars can stay, but he's on thin ice ✨🌙✨

This makes me so happy :D Tilney is my favorite Austen fella. He's fantastic in the novel for all the reasons you mentioned and I really love JJ Field's portrayal of him in the movie. Spot on.

This was so much fun to watch!

I can think of a positive thing to say about Mr. Collins. He is HILARIOUS. Honestly, that man alone accounts for at least two fifths of the comedy in Pride and Prejudice.

And in the end, he does seem to actually love Charlotte. Probably just being over-excited to actually have a woman he can bang, but still. He does SEEM to actually love her. And he treats her well. So, there's that.

But mostly, he's just plain hilarious.

Ok, passionate defense of Mr. Collins (although I totally agree with the list 😄). The thing about Mr. Collins which almost all adaptations forget is that he's only 25 years old. He's totally full of himself and ridiculous yes, but by the end he's married to a sensible woman older then him. So I think there's hope for him yet.

This is great!! I'm so happy with Mr. Tilney being at the top of the list. He's my absolute favorite Austen hero, Austen priest, maybe even Austen character. He's delightful and so sweet. Fun fact: David Bamber, who played Mr. Collins in the 1995 P&P, played Mr. Elton in the BBC radio play of "Emma" 🙃🤣🤣

This was so much fun. But I think I would reverse Edmund and Edward - if this list is completely about the "hotness" of the character, we have to factor in the fact that Mary Crawford herself gets a crush on Edmund and hates the visual ideaof him dressed as a clergyman, presumably because he would look less hot. Meanwhile Edward is so plain and dull that no one suspects him of forming any kind of secret attachment to anyone (let alone 2).

I love this video Claudia!!! Huh the position of Mr. Elton is surprising, but actually makes sense in a way. Just because he's an awful person doesn't mean he isn't hot in a way especially compared to the other winners on the list. Mr. Tilney is one of my favorite and severely underrated Austen men!

🤣🤣🤣 passionate defense of Mr. Collins I’ve had so much fun here this morning thank you! ❤ and I agree with your choice Mr Tilney is delicious. I like Edward too although I am with Marianne in her assessment of his poetry reading lol. I can’t wait for video on toxic masculinity and Jane Austen’s bad boys. Love your videos

This was FANTASTIC, Claudia. I was almost expecting you to do a side glance at the camera like Fleabag. "Ooooh, novel-reading priest who knows his muslin!" ;-)

Ok, I must re-read Northanger Abbey focussing more on Henry Tilley this time 😂! Love this video.

I enjoyed this....thanks. I'd forgotten (or never noticed) that Henry Tilney was a clergyman. But you're correct, Henry is a delightful creation, especially when compared to all the other JA horse's backsides or prigs also "wearing the cloth".
I love the way he teases his beloved, but never in a mean way. Some readers have suggested that their marriage would likely end up like the Bennets, but not anyone who reads between the lines. Henry loves Catherine for all her stellar qualities, despite her innocence and lack of worldliness.
I'd predict a long, happy marriage with lots of children.

5 🌟 JAJ video 😂 !
I think Ms. Austen herself wouldve gotten a kick out of it!
Lovely fun.

I was surprised that Mr Elton was placed 2nd. He may be at the bottom of my list. I did enjoy your reasons for the rank of each priest. This video is truly laugh out loud funny. Thanks!😂😂😂

Henry Tilney is everything! For the first time with these lists, I am actually in 100% agreement with you. LOL

Well, i disagree with few choices here but the fact that you put Bertram last, makes the list valid to me.
10:46 not only in Regency era, but even in current times, there not too many John Thorpes than Tilney. Honestly shocking to me how Austen came up with such a lead and we still struggle to show male leads showing any interest in feminine activities

Henry Tilney!!! <3 He is one of the best, and one of my favorites. Definitely agree that Fanny Price deserved better

I love your analysis of Mr Tilney! (Because I agree with you lol) The first time I read NA, I looooved Mr Tilney because I found him genuinely nice and funny and kinda feminist (so I thought). Then I reread NA 8 years later... and found him rather condescending. I wasn't sure whether he liked Catherine because of her or because she was like a "blank canvas" he could preach into being to his liking. And now I'm reading NA for the third time...!
