NOT ONCE in this video did he say Khelif should or shouldn't be fighting in the women's division. He just explained objective biological principles and people are upset. It's not a political stance to practice objective science.

When it comes to this gender stuff it seems people just lose their common sense, it’s ridiculous.

Not to make light of this situation, but makes me think of that Saturday Night Live character "Pat", no one could tell if Pat was male or female.

In combat sports were people can get really badly hurt or even die, I think the athletes need to be 100% biological of the grender you compete against.

I did not have a Dr Sutterer discussion about "Go Nads" on my Bingo Card for today.

As a medical professional I agree with your very reasoned explanation. The sad fact of the matter is that this entire issue has been supercharged by irrational political discourse. If this individual is a true genetic anomaly than I feel extremely sad for them that this very personal issue has been fodder for political hacks on BOTH sides of the issue. The pervasive nature of Western political discourse clouds what should be a simple determination by genetic testing and physical exam.

It seems like all of this should have been sorted out prior to the Olympics.

Fun fact: there's a region in the Dominican Republic where the opposite is common. Genotype males are mistaken for females because they have a female phenotype.

I have been a USA boxing coach for years training boy, girls, women and men.Someone in the comments compared this to a short guy playing basketball vs a tall guy playing basketball🤦🏽The reason y the hieght advantage is nowhere near the same is because physical damage is not part of the equation. Two male boxers can be the same weight but one can have a 8inch reach advantage but that shorter fighter can still cause damage!! I have women who are more skilled then some my men but the mans abilty to take and give more damage is always evident.I think this is a simple fact people are over complicating.I.I feel the only fair solution would be to have a league or category of their own. There are weight classes for a reason. There is mens and womens boxing for a reason.Im not a Dr or a scientist just a coach that understands combat sports.I have seen damage given and taken for years.I am not sure how that individual grew up how they feel or their motivation but sometimes wrong is wrong regardless whos feeling get hurt.

Here before this comment section becomes a mess.

While I agree that it is no fault of the individual with abnormal chromosomes it is also not the fault of the women they are competing against that they have normal genetics. If they have male chromosomes and they want to compete, then they should compete against others with male chromosomes . Not fair to have women who work all their lives to have their dreams shattered by someone with an obvious physical advantage due to testosterone levels.

I think the media twisting this so much seems like a distraction from the real issues

Its a shame that this situation has been handled with very little nuance and context by most people talking about it.

I'm pretty sure this comments section is going to be normal

There is a correlation between the Y chromosome and strength. Maybe it would be easier to classify sports as XX and XY rather than male and female. If someone has a Y chromosome, then they have the capability for higher levels of strength, so they shouldn't compete against someone with XX chromosomes.

I get what you’re saying and can have empathy for the minuscule percentage of people who suffer with these lifelong issues. The reason we are not seeing empathy for this boxer is that there are men who do not have these issues but for their very complicated emotional and physical issues have decided to transition to female and then expect women athletes to step aside and let them participate and often dominate. It is misogynistic to say the least. And women sadly in the name of inclusion quietly let them.

Now explain why we don't see an influx of female transitioned as male in a physical male sports.

I'm not a doctor, but when I hear bone snap, see the leg bend in a >90 degree angle and see the person scream out in pain, I can confidently say that the leg is broken. I don't even need an X-ray, but if its taken and the photo shows a crack in the bone, I'm even more convinced even though people will say I'm not qualified to draw that conclusion.

It's all about body mechanics. A girl can be stronger than a guy but when it comes to throwing a punch there's a huge difference. The male frame allows for more leverage when throwing a punch.

Really appreciate the way Dr. Sutterer covered this topic. Lot of ppl reading stuff on Twitter and just assuming the Olympics allowed a man to beat up a woman. Lot of misinformation. Thanks, Doc, this is a touchy subject that you didn't have to cover but you did in order to get the information and science out to your audience
