In episode #469 of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to music by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard for the first time. And, I found their vibe to be quite infectious! I listened (and played along to) The Dripping Tap from their album Omnium Gatherum, released in early 2022. Come along for a fun ride!

King Gizzard is hands down the best and most prolific rock band of the last decade, bar none, and I firmly believe they will be remembered for decades after they call it quits. They are also criminally unknown outside of Australia, although this is quickly changing... Just this month they are releasing THREE new albums! Dive in buddy, even if you don't do it on the channel this is one discography you'll want to listen to in its entirety! Most of their songs also include some environmental message...

Gizzhead over here and this is my introduction to your channel - loved that you got involved in the spirit of the jam, and some insightful comments afterwards. The Gizzverse has much to offer and I would love to stick around to see you work through it!

From the first of April through the summer I must of listened to “The Dripping Tap” a few hundred times. Song of the year for me. Saw them live last night in Seattle. 2 hours of unrelentless sound, lights and fury. My mind and body were still vibrating this afternoon.

Never seen your vids before and just as I was starting to think “I kinda like this guy” you whip out a lil bowl and start noodling on the piano. Instant fan!

As others have mentioned their latest album, which came out today explores the 7 modes. One song in each mode.

But wait there’s more! They’ve put out records exploring microtonal tuning, jazz, thrash metal, prog, synth pop/rock, an infinitely looping album, spaghetti western spoken word and more.

Best band on the planet right now. I think you’ll love them, Doug. Check out Crumbling Castle from polygondwanaland, proggy goodness.

Oh and they’re putting out another new record on Tuesday and a third (this month) on the 28th.

Speaking of Myxolydian: Their new album that came out today has a song in each mode. The first of 3 albums to come out in October.

Great to see you've finally listened to King Gizzard! I'd highly recommend listening to the entirety of Nonagon Infinity. Entire album is essentially a garage-punk take on Octavarium

Oh my God, this is so good! This was my first listen, too. Thank you Doug and everyone that got you to listen. And they have a huge back catalogue to explore.

I think this was a peek into a deep rabbit hole for me. Gonna go explore their music. Maybe I should leave a note for my wife in case I disappear for a while 😃.

Wow! The best band that I have heard in a long while! So fresh, so new. A long, neverending feeling of a non stopping conclusion. A great mesh of different genre's into one. The lyrics are a hoot!

They played nearly 4 hours at Red Rocks on October 11th, it was a "Marathon Set" and that was an understatement. Played music from nearly all of their albums, all in one show. They did this "Marathon Set" 2 days in a row, October 10th & 11th. These guys are musicians musicians. That show has no peer that I know of, and I'm confident no other band has the talent, endurance, or desire to do anything like what they did. This band will be discussed by musical teachers in a few years. Genuinely, there may not be another band like them now or ever and I'm so grateful. I met them the very next night (October 12th) in Denver at Marquis Theatre, where another Australian band, The Babe Rainbow, was playing. Both bands are buds, and to see Ambrose, Joey, and Cavs there and shake their hands was wild. They were down to Earth and gracious. These guys can't be stopped.

It must be fun to play in this band. They blend all those styles into a positive jamming energy.

Hey Doug It looks like you’re diving into a HUGE band. They just released an album a yesterday and it’s the first of 3 THIS MONTH. I think I would wait to do Nonagon as one continuous listen as it is well, and infinitely connected album. But there’s so much here including jazz, polyrhythms, and microtonal music! Iron Lung is a great song off this brand new album!
