To begin with I would like to see actually measured MTF values comparing the “old” GM with the new GM 2. That’s the starting point. Yes, I do own the SEL85F14GM and a Zeiss Batis 1.8/85mm, both are great for their use cases

Finally!!! After 8 years, the GM85 version 2 is out!!! The old 85mm is just terrible overall and Sony still wants $1, 700 usd for it.

Next GM Primes to be updated will be the 400mm & 24mm focal lengths in 2025. Sony better create a f/1.2 24mm Prime to pair with the 50GM. Canon & Nikon dominate 35/85 due to the 55mm throat on Z & RF mount vs. 46mm on E-Mount. E-Mount can accept a 24 1.2, therefore Sony needs to provide stills artists with a lens that Nikon & Canon will not match, in order to make up for not being able to manufacture a f/1.2 beyond 58mm.

Just buy 60% cheaper Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN instead. Similar size, Weight and sharpness. There is no reason to pay that much of extra money for AF

so Sony accepted that they can't make 85mm F1.2 on E-Mount right ? We wait too many year for 85 1.2 to come out. but got another upgrade 85 1.4 instead.

I would take bigger and heavier for a 1.4! Some of us creatives are not weak =)
