Your emails: Will matte paint jobs get damaged at the car wash? (On Cars)

Brian Cooley talks about matte paint cars and how they hold up at the automatic car wash.

I have a matte Mercedes Benz and I love it! its the easiest paint to take care ever! Though its true that its tough to repair, at least for the Mercedes version, the paint is almost like a coat of armor and almost  impervious to pitting, scratching and most of the minor damage that regular paint is prone to. Even better nothing sticks to it, sap, insects, tar are easily removed with soap and water! Furthermore, its superbly easy to keep looking new since to protect the paint all it needs is a 5 minute Meguairs spray wax job and done. As far as automatic car washes are concerned, all you need is a touchless car wash (no brushes). As you have well pointed out, the paint should never be buffed since it can create a shiny area. Best car paint ever bar none.

This is where Peugeot has innovated! They created 'textured paints' which have a matte finish and a slightly grainy texture to the surface but they can be scratched without damage and can be taken through a rolly car wash.

Never use an car wash, regardless of the paint. Those hand wash crews can also really do number on your paint. Just wash your car yourself.

My coworker had his car painted for big $$, and the same day he put it thru an robo-wash, wanting to get it clean from the dust and get a coat of hotwax on it... He literally cried when he saw it all scratched up afterwards, the paint was again dull and scuffed.

So please, if you like your car, never put it thru a robo wash. Hand washing PROPERLY will only scratch it a little, as washing a car will scratch it somewhat.

I take all my cars through the car wash. They still look good. Just hand touch up the dirt the wash misses. Wtf has time ro handwash eap in texas summer heat! If it was an old collector car def hand wash but wveryday car fk no
