The German Shepherd Blue Heeler Mix: The Best GSD Mix?

Показать описание
The German Shepherd Blue Heeler mix is a true-blue working dog that’s smart, determined, and obedient. Whether as a guard dog or a livestock helper, it’ll thrive with a knowledgeable owner that’s dedicated to proper training and leadership.
The average Blue Heeler Shepherd mix will weigh 60 pounds, and stand 20 inches tall, but this will largely depend on what parent breed it takes after most.
These dogs could actually weigh between 35 and 90 pounds, and stand 17 to 26 inches tall, due to the size differences between the parent breeds.
While the German Shepherd is long and tall, the Blue Heeler is shorter and stockier, and when fully grown, the Heeler Shepherd mix will typically be smaller than a purebred German Shepherd.
These Shepherd mixes are bred from working dogs, creating puppies that are intelligent and full of energy, can be trained well, and respond best to positive reinforcement.
However, they can also get bored easily, so keeping training sessions energetic and fresh will be really important. Thanks to their working dog heritage, they need a ton of exercise to stay healthy and mentally sharp.
They can be good family pets with the proper socialization, but they’re best for families with older children. Due to their size and power, their confident intelligence can be difficult to handle.
Both parent dogs also have the tendency to nip at the heels of livestock and humans due to their history as herding dogs, and this often happens around running children.
As German Shepherds can be aggressive, the mix has a potential for boisterous behavior and aggression towards other dogs, which is why it’s important to socialize them as puppies.
Since these working dogs have such high energy, play can seem aggressive, even when it’s well-intentioned. They’ll look for a leadership role, and around other dogs, they may try to establish dominance.
This mix will also have prey instincts, meaning they try to hunt smaller animals. If you have small pets, like rabbits, hamsters, or even cats, these dogs may not be the best choice.
A Blue Heeler German Shepherd mix needs to be socialized with other dogs starting in puppyhood, otherwise, they can display these sorts of dominant tendencies.
Blue Heelers are loyal pets, but they aren’t necessarily cuddly, and while they do like to show and receive affection, they won’t be particularly interested in cuddling. Since German shepherds are notoriously affectionate dogs, it’s tough to say whether or not the Shepherd Heeler mix will like to cuddle.
Although they may not crave a cuddle, there are still plenty of ways to show physical affection towards your Blue Heeler Shepherd mix. They’re athletic animals, and playtime is the perfect opportunity to bond. By indulging them in physical play, they'll become used to contact.
Otherwise, give them lots of petting, and start at a young age to get them used to human contact. And don’t forget to praise them! DISCLAIMER:
