Does this apply to private businesses as well? I was under the impression this is only for public officials.
Example: Tipping the host at a restaurant, hoping they recommend a very nice table for you.
Tipping a hotel check-in clerk, as sometimes this encourages them to choose the quiet room with a nice view for you.
Is this haram?
