Midas MR18 rehearsal test recording #malaysianpowermetal

Got a Midas MR18 digital mixer a few weeks back at @MusicBlissMalaysiaTV (Thanks, Joseph!). Plan was to use it to set up an in-ear monitor rig for the band as well as double-up as a recording interface.

We had a 4-mic setup for the drums (snare, kick, and 2 OH) with the guitar going DI straight into the mixer. Click track and backing track were fed into the mixer from VLC running on my positively medieval iPhone 6 via a stereo Y splitter cable. (One of the last iPhones to have a 3.5mm audio jack! 💪)

The top 3 cool things about this setup:
1. No need to worry about not being able to hear instruments clearly because of their placement or arrangement in the room. ☑️
2. Can easily record multi-tracks of the session. ☑️
3. Each band member can adjust their individual mix remotely on their phone via the Mixing Station app! ☑️

The biggest downside though is… so much more gear to bring out!! 🤪*
