How a Family Has Lived Off-Grid In The Wilderness For 32 Years

This might be the most informative video on off-grid homesteader wilderness living that you have seen -- from the people who have lived about half their lives in the wilderness. See what they've built, how they live. You won't believe what the flooring is! What do they do for water? What about a bathroom? Food? Laundry? Bathing? How much do they spend? How do they make money? Is bartering common? What you might think of as the simplest things could be something that has to be well thought out and planned. This is survival in the Canadian bush.

When I lived off the grid in the NWT in the 1960's I washed clothes in one of those large, metal milk containers, shaved off pieces of sunlight bar soap and churned the clothes with a toilet plunger. Worked like a damn. Also scrounged an old Eaton's Acme wood stove for cooking and purchased a Grandfather Fisher stove for heat. Now 90 years old, retired in rural Saskatchewan and really envying you folks. Best wishes to you all. Makes me proud to be Canadian.

Very good documentary one of the best I've seen.I live similar to this myself and picked a few god ideas while watching for me and here is no bette way to live but a lot of people would never live like this and call us poor and dirty. The truth is we are the healthiest and richest people by far.I dreamed of living like this from a young age but the cities and small towns had me chasing the the Dollar and paying continuously in the vicious circle many get trapped in.I saved and sold everything 4years ago and made this my life and I will never turn back.I truly am blessed and deeply in love with nature and mother earth and she can really provide for me with a little elbow grease.

The main guy, Steven, is clearly quite intellegent. His common sense is admirable. Those two attributes don't always intersect, but this guy's got it together. Great story telling.

Hope you do more of these. I admit at first I was like, I dunno...after a bit I respected what they were doing...and by the end I was very happy for them all. Eli seems like a pure boy...no corruption of society. Makes me smile.
Thanks for sharing your lives and thanks for sharing the vid.

The ground pebble is interesting, but what I would do is probably install some kind of pipe system under the pebble and have hot water going though that pipe. The rock will capture that heat and irradiate it. I'm just not fully sure how to do it easily without an electric pump. One huge advantage of this, is 4 inch of warm rock pebble still irradiate that energy after the fire is gone, and since heat rise, no insulation is really needed (I just wouldn't go too far to the border of the house, then this might cause issues maybe. You could also have the sun hit the rock floor, which the rock will store that heat (And you will want to do the reverse in the summer, protect so the sun don't enter the cabin).

I have been watching many outdoor survival & homesteading videos over the years.
Now this one is about as real as it gets. Very good down to earth truth about this kind
of living. No romanticizing. Life as it really is... if you choose to live and be self-sufficient.
Awesome video.

Every person should experience harvesting your sustenance. I really felt that pain of being truly thankful. ❤

They seem like nice folks. Reminds me of my first homestead on the Alaska HWY, that was back in the 70s. I'm still off grid, but further south in central BC, old and a little spoiled. I like my life, couldn't imagine moving into a town. Enjoyed your vid, thanks.

After 10 or so years of YouTube watching, this video is very likely at the top of the list of the videos I've watched! You guys sipping the water from your hands would have been allowed in Gideon's army. 😎
