India's Glaring Job Crisis | Unemployment Falls, But What Do The Real Figures Say? | Mahesh Vyas

As Russia's war in Ukraine continues to hit economies worldwide, the Indian economy has reported a slight improvement in its unemployment rate. However, zooming into the figures tells one that the labour participation figures have also seen a drop. The labour participation rate for March 2022 is the lowest it has been in eight months.

Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy's Mahesh Vyas joins Barkha Dutt to discuss the glaring crisis of unemployment in India.

The message from Govt is simple: Govt will not provide jobs!! Look elsewhere. There are plenty of jobs in IT sector but people want Govt jobs (sarkari naukri). Nahi milne wala.

Before 2014 not single unemployed was there. Every one in the country used to draw minimum one lakh rupees salary per month. Every citizen had a Tesla car to move arround .petrol was one rupee per litre. Everyone had minimum hundred square feet house with big lawn, swimming pool garden. Joblessness is driving 4000 Indians everyday to immigrate. The nationalist must address this issue instead of constantly yelling about how great India is.

"Forget about the small and medium enterprises" is the worst economic advice anyone can give. There is no rich economy in the world where small and medium enterprises are insignificant. If we aspire to be rich then we wouldn't gut the MSME sector. They are employers of at least a third of the population and they can move up the value chain.
