One great thing about this movie is that they took this extremely historically important, yet no longer popular hero and didn't just change him into something different to appeal to today's audience, they actually paid homage to its 80 years of history while updating a few things.
For instance in this scene alone they worked in two tropes of classic Captain Marvel / Shazam stories: one is the hero using his transformation into Billy to his advantage, in this case to escape the monster; the other is Billy being prevented from saying the magic word, which is his one weakness and would therefore happen in a lot of (almost every) stories.
Both these traits come from the fact that he's a quite unique hero having his two identities basically be completely different characters, with only their memories and to some extent personality in common.
There would rarely if ever be an occasion for other heroes to change into their civilian identity in the middle of an action scene or to solve some problem, and that is because the dual identities are usually just a secret but they don't have distinct abilities: if Spider-Man had to snap a photo of something he could bring out the camera and do it, he wouldn't have to change into Peter Parker! Captain Marvel would instead sometimes change to Billy to go through tight spots or sneak somewhere. Also his weakness is peculiar: it's not just something that overpowers the hero or takes away his powers, it's something specific that affects the powerless Billy himself. A simple thug could sneak behind Billy, knock him out, then tie him up and gag him, and this would be enough to defeat the hero (in fact some variation of it happened in most stories in the Golden Age, it was part of the formula of each episode), so Billy himself would have to use his wit to find a way to get the gag loose so he could shout the magic word. Heck there was even one comic where Billy hits his face and gets a chipped tooth, and he couldn't properly say the word!
...so yeah, you can tell I'm a big fan of this character and I was super happy the movie treated him right.

Even before his family got their own powers, they still helped significantly saving Billy at the right moments. Too perfect.

This movie was soo good, sad that it was the smallest DCEU movie yet turned a profit theatrically. For Shazam 2 I hope they release it away from an MCU movie.

This is the second role for Mark Strong in a DC film. He previously played Sinestro in Green Lantern (2011).

Same line as in The Last Dragon, who also gets dunked in water. "Play time's over, boy." - Shonuff

I wonder if Cole Macgrath to be in a live action of the movie from Infamous & Shazam too.

Best part? He only needed 1 second to say it, just that one second. People wondering why he couldn't change underwater, him saying " Shazam! " While submerged in water, why dont you try yelling in submerged in water and see if anyone can hear you. Idiots.
