Great List! seen 8 films in that top 10..
Would have loved to see Ivan's Childhood, Seven Samurai, Floating Weeds, 8 1/2, Harakiri, Yojimbo, Psycho, Le Samourai, Pierrot Le Fou, Z, Pather Panchali, Paths of Glory in this list or as HMs..
and most importantly Touch of Evil and Persona, both of the opening sequences were mindblowing..

I can't argue against your list. I would have added North By North West (Hitchcock, 1959) as a good candidate.

You missed James Wong Howe. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, winner of two, “The Rose Tattoo“ 1955, and “HUD” 1963. I love the “The Sweet Smell of Success” 1957.

You forgot psycho in your list that movie has brilliant cinematography that didn’t win lost to sons and lovers which I haven’t seen but this one should have won with silhouette lighting and composition including camera movements I just don’t get it

pre-70's is wayyy to broad.
Honestly 1 per decade would be so much better.
