At the frontline of humanism, with Joan Bakewell and Andrew Copson | Humanists UK Convention 2019

Joan Bakewell’s willingness to shed light on social issues, to push the envelope when it is the right thing
to do, and her enthusiasm for informing the public, while never patronising them, have made her an
indispensable ally to humanists. She has challenged taboos around sex, examined religion from a critical
and objective standpoint, and has been a champion for arts, culture, and their relevance to life. She has
long been a friend of Humanists UK, was awarded Humanist of the Year 2017, and is Co-Chair of
the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group. In conversation with Andrew Copson, we hear tales – some funny,
some wise, all engaging – from a national treasure.

As an American, I must admit that I was not familiar with Joan Bakewell. But, I'm glad I do now and this was great content. And, the accents made it even more wonderful to listen to!!! Thanks for posting.

A heightened respect for Joan. I watch her on portrait and landscape artist of the year and was just about the look her up when this popped up. It irritates me to no end how religious beliefs have infiltrated mainstream entertainment and news. It's as though it's a given that everyone wants to partake. They don't.

Hi iam Dennis mugambi, I know you don't know me, you owe me nothing just talking out, life too short father of two really struggling and desperate kindly I'm human and everyone needs help sometimes, iam really struggling and desperate, my kid's are really starving and it's hurting to a parent, iam on odd job's that don't come easy always, they are on and off. Please as a parent a human being and a parent all iam asking is, mercy, support of one or two meal, so that when I go out to hustle i will know ican manage so tht they don't starve please i beg. .please ibeg in God's name consider us we're human being too before it's too late please.
