Some baits catch fish, some just catch fisherman. The crazier the bait, the more you wonder about it. Is that bait junk or is it something special? Today we're looking at some of those odd ball, goofy baits that actually catch fish! These designers were thinking outside the box when they built these lures and the gamble paid off. If you're tired of throwing the same old baits, this video is for you!

Its safe to say that we're all attracted to crazy looking lures. In years past most of us fell for the flying lure, the helicopter lure, and those crazy looking crankbaits with glowing red eyes. Most of the really off the wall baits turned out to be junk, but once in a while we'd stumble on a gem that actually caught fish. In today's fast-paced world there are more crazy lures than ever! So which ones are actually worth trying? Tim is about to show us his favorites!

Below you'll find links to the exact baits discussed in the video. The baits are listed in the order they appeared and all links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each bait. We've included our favorite sizes and colors for each lure as well.

Thanks Tim, I also love trying new off the wall lures. You never know what your bass will want. The crazy crawler did produce some good bass but not often enough to carry around. Many of these lures fall in that category but you never know, I was one of the first in my area to throw a chatterbait, that worked out pretty well !

Great video as always man! Love top water! I believe the old Heddon Lure company was one of the first to have the "winged" type top water lure. It was called the "Crazy Crawler" and when I was a kid 40 year ago I could only afford the "micro" lures at the time so I have a Heddon Tiny Crazy Crawler. Never caught anything on it but what a blast to cast and retrieve! Haha. Love the double buzzbait and caught my PB Smallmouth that was over 5 pounds about 15 years ago up in the Muskoka region of Ontario Canada. My 15 year old son has broken his PB smallmouth bass on his favourite lure twice in 3 weeks with the Berkley Choppo with his last PB at just under 4 pounds! We feel it has a better sound than a whopper plopper and has tougher material for the cupped fin so lasts much longer. Also comes with great sticky Fusion 19 hooks so no need to upgrade. Fall transition is here for Ontario Canada so tight lines everyone and get put for some awesome fishing before the white stuff comes! Lol

You guys need to do a vid/interview at the Fishing museum in Spooner, Wisconsin. Some wild, old lures there. Truly, should be on a fisherman’s bucket list!

Super cool video! I couldn’t believe the action on those wing type baits and frog with forward legs! Crazy!

First 2 i-wing and pompador are considered crawler baits i belive as far as category of baits. Also the basirisky can be fished how you Said but as I understand it was created for throwing in the thickest of wood/rip rap. A normal frog with double frog hooks can get caught in wood as you drag it over and under wood in thick laydowns. The appendages on the basirisky stop that from happening, this is also why it only has a single hook down the middle. Deps only makes this frog every year or 2. They just made them again for first time in like 2 years.

I got the small cover scat to try and finally got out today to use it. I put it on a 2/0 EWG and it fit perfectly. I was thinking as I made the first cast “I hope I haven’t wasted my money on this”. I couldn’t believe it I caught a bass, then another, 2 nice blue gills, and ended with 3 more bass. Like you said I don’t know what the fish see in it but they love it and so do I, I couldn’t put it down!! Thank you both for all the great baits, fishing tips, and gear you share!!

Awesome looking baits. I’m still an old school jitterbug guy. Have caught more on top water with it than any other and I’ve seen no one using it in decades, not to say they don’t but I’ve not seen anyone using it.

May have been mentioned before, but will you do some underwater footage of some of the top water baits? Just curious on what the fish see. Thanks and as always love all your videos.

I’d say that an A-rig fits perfectly in this category to the non-informed angler. When I first saw them and hadn’t seen or read about their fish catching ability I thought that the market had absolutely gone crazy and was just throwing a Hail Mary to see if someone would jump.

Seems like the name of the Deps Cover Scat pretty much explains what it’s supposed to look like 😜 Maybe it’s most effective in lakes with lots of geese?

I love jackall lures. Most unique and effective baits. They are all fish catchers. From the aska to the pompadour

Heddon Crazy Crawler when I was a kid. My Son gave me a Savage Gear “Bat” for Father’s Day as a “Fun Gift”. That baby gets “savage” bites and the hooks are lethal. (Keep the packaging for storage)

I also slept on the Plopper for a long time. I still prefer using the old Heddon Torpedo, something about the skittering sound the prop makes just drives fish insane, but I make sure to throw the Plopper regularly.

I have developed my own line of Crawlers I’m launching soon. Love they way a good size crawler brings in giants!! Saw my dad catch his biggest bass on a Heddon Crazy Crawler when I was 12!! I have a rat, chipmunk, gill, and frog as well as a black night version. Just caught a 5+ on the rat in my pond!!! Bass just destroy crawlers!! Did you see the OSP Dice Rubber?!?! That is a crazy
