My candidate for the greatest rock song of all time. Perfection--start to finish.

The first time that I heard The Moody Blues, I was on a completely dark helicopter flight deck two days out from Norfolk in 1973, laying on my back looking up at a river of stars What a way to be exposed to the best band in history ...

This has got to be my favorite song by the Moody Blues! I absolutely love this song! The chord progression is to die for!

This song is excellent, top-shelf. I play in a cover band and we cover this song because it is well received by audiences. They recognize that it is a very high quality composition with fiery energy. I only wish I knew how to write songs like this.
Note the layers of instruments, layers of backing harmony vocals, overlapping complimentary tones, excellent melody, and the overall sonic quality. The listener's attention is never on one instrument for more than 8-10 seconds, and can easily be drawn away to at least two other layers. Music is not made this way anymore because artists are lazy and uninspired to make anything this elaborate and creative. Justin Hayward is severely underrated.

Certainly one of the best rock songs of the '70s era.  Quality in all respects.  Too bad you rarely hear it now.

I've been thinking about our fortune
And I've decided that we're really not to blame
For the love that's deep inside us now, is still the same
And the sound we make together
Is the music to the story in your eyes
It's been shining down upon you now, I realize
Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We are part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day
But I'm frightened for your children
And the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain
When the final line is over
And it's certain that the curtain's gonna fall
I can hide inside your sweet sweet love
Forever more
Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We are part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day
But I'm frightened for your children
And the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain

Truly phenomenal and epic song. You can't say this about very many tunes but this comes from a truly phenomenal band.
