Fielding Mellish (Woody Allen), a consumer products tester, becomes infatuated with Nancy (Louisse Lasser), a political activist. He attends demonstrations and tries in other ways to convince her that he is worthy of her love, but Nancy wants someone with greater leadership potential. Fielding runs off to San Marcos where he joins the rebels and eventually becomes President of the country. While on a trip to the states, he meets Nancy again and she falls for him now that he is a political leader.
The score was composed by the talented Marvin Hamlisch, one of the few occasions in which Allen has used original music for one of his films. The New York composer composed this memorable comedy soundtrack with nods to Mancini and Burt Bacharach. The song QUIERO LA NOCHE is performed by the Puerto Rican group Yomo Toro Trío, a group that became famous for having introduced the sound of the cuatro in Salsa. A film set in the revolution of a Latin country needed a special touch that recalled Latin American music. And so this theme emerged, mixed with gunshot and bomb effects, and philharmonic chords.
