I grew up in Pakistan. This reminds me that there was a girl in my school bus (van, actually) with half of her face burned like this when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I don't remember ever talking to her as I was actually scared of her. Everyone was. Never thought about it until watching this video today that she could've been a victim of an acid attack by a coward too. I feel sorry for her now and wish I hadn't been scared to talk to her and treated her like there's nothing scary about her face. I hope wherever she is today, she's doing well.

He was taken aback a little at first, but he kept talking to her even after he saw her face. I'm pleasantly surprised by his reaction. He's a genuinely kind person.

Its not just about acid attack, it's about people who lack beauty in general . The society may pretend they don't care for outer beauty, but from inside everyone gives so much importance to physical beauty.

Chhapaak is not even near to Uyare in portrayal of acid attack tragedy. Parvathy is a real performer. Btw I am a north Indian and I have watched this amazing movie Uyare.

What's more savage is that he actually gives her the job and makes her the face of his aviation company

Reminds me of a loving senior of my college... she was the beauty queen of her place and winner before the acid attack. The life after that changes a lot... and the people like us are the one who treat them with compassion. And what the actress said is true, beauty is a factor in many.... but there are lot of other ways they can succeed. My senior is an adorable living and very brave sis... she may have dropped wish to be an air hostess or similar... but she is an agricultural scientist. Proud of that loving soul.

The difference is clear. For Bollywood, its been always the Glamour...But down there in South, its pure Art of film making.Pure Talents.

The saddest thing is that Malayalam industry never got the credit for its art. Most people outside Kerala think that all south Indian movies are like those dubbed ones shown on Hindi channels. Can't blame them since they still can't tell the difference between madrasi and malayali!

Edit: Ignorance is definitely not bliss sometimes. To all my fellow Indians: learn about your culture and diversity and respect eachother's traditions. This is what makes us different from the rest of the world!

I need to thank everyone, parvathy is a talented person. She has faced severe cyber bullying just because she stood with a victim and boldly expressed her stands. She's a strong woman, always speak up for herself and others too. But still people are hating her for nothing. So thanks for realising her talent and appreciating her.

Sadly it is customary in some countries to throw acid on a woman's face because she rejects a marriage proposal.

This issue needs more attention to make it stop.

I wish our Malayalam movies get more exposure like this. There are many classics that deserve more attention.

Oh what a movie! It goes on to show how a woman can be so much more than what society expects them to be. Kudos to Netflix for bringing such content to us! Didn't realize it released in April!

I've met some acid attack survivors in my college. I've talked to them and we've held programs together a few times. When one of them was telling me her story i was filled with sadness anger and rage all together. They'd go for multiple surgeries and it still hurt them even after days of getting burnt. That was the physical pain and i can't even imagine how much mental pain they'd have gone through. One girl fondly showed me a pic of herself before the attack. I don't think I'd seen anyone as beautiful as her in my entire life. Why would anyone do something like that. It was heartbreaking 😢 i hope they are successful and get everything amazing in both worlds.
