Why is Syracuse NY the snowiest big city in America?

Syracuse, NY gets hit by three major types of snowstorms: nor'easters, lake effect and Alberta clippers.

New York is the only state that borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes, which puts the state in line for coastal storms and lake effect snow. Upstate New York is far enough north to have months of cold weather, and close enough to Canada to be in the path of Alberta clippers, which originate in the Canadian Rockies.

I'm in Buffalo right next to Syracuse and I feel your pain trust me. Lake effect snow is a daily event.

As a student at Syracuse University, I recall the city being called Siberacuse. Calling Syracuse, a city with a population just under 150, 000, a “big city” is quite a stretch.

I grew up in upstate NY, maybe 50 miles south of Syracuse. While it is beautiful in summer, the winters, seasonal affective disorder all were very hard on me. I live in FL now with better weather. Fine to visit, but don't want to move back

Big City, key words... Oswego, Pulaski, Mexico, Redfield or Watertown don't qualify.

I never liked commuting to/from work in the snow, though it was usually manageable. Other than that, I liked the snow. Now I live in the south. The worst gridlocks occur here at about the same frequency as they did in Syracuse, say every 5 or so years, but it only takes a sudden couple of inches during the "rush" hour rather than a couple of feet as it did in Syracuse.

Because Erie is no longer a "big city". 😂

If it is the snowiest, where is it?And in January we had one blizzard and the snow melted within 5 days . In sorry . I'm not seeing it. The snow I'm talking about. Gun shots, yeah I am seeing and hearing that but that's about it.
