Joe, you can use angular 22 when you change the import for Component and View as follows:
ComponentAnnotation as Component, ViewAnnotation as View

Getting a reference to DOM object can be obtained from $event.target
I don't see benefit with adding #doc to refer to DOM object....

BTW on a side note david's code had a bug .
instead of returning random number from 0 to 5 it was always returning 0, so the example was not accurate enough to deduce the speed
