Permanent Magnets and Induced Magnets - GCSE Physics
Показать описание
What's the difference between a permanent magnet and an induced magnet? In this video, we will use an experiment to determine whether an object is a permanent magnet or an induced magnet.
A permanent magnet always has a magnetic field, giving it a North and a South pole.
An object made of iron, cobalt, or nickel can be made into a magnet by placing it in a magnetic field a permanent magnet. This process is known as magnetic induction, making an induced magnet.
An induced magnet will lose its magnetism once it's been taken out of the magnetic field.
If an induced magnet is made of a soft magnetic material, it loses its magnetism quickly.
If it's made of a hard magnetic material, it is better at retaining its magnetism.
