The GOP ignored its own advice about how to win in 2016

After Mitt Romney's crushing defeat in 2012, the Republican Party commissioned a self-assessment for how it could retake the White House. The subsequent "GOP autopsy report" called on the GOP to attract minority voters, in particular Hispanics, in order to ever have a chance of winning another presidential election.

Instead, the GOP went in entirely the opposite direction, and four years later, nominated Donald Trump. But there are at least two Republicans still committed to the 2012 vision for the party — one of the authors of the report, Haley Barbour and the new RNC Hispanic Outreach Director, Helen Firre. VICE News sat down with both of them during the week of Trump's convention to find out whether there is any life left in the autopsy report.

I have no problem with Trump and the GOP being exposed. I do, however, have a problem with the media revelations over Trump, yet leaving Hillary and the DNC completely un touched is unnerving. Either they are afraid of the weight of a Clinton nominee, or they hate Trump so much that they are okay with the devil we know rather than one we don't and it's said it's even at this point. I despise Trump. But I don't completely ignore the DNC. How about you report from both? I'm sure VICE could uncover so much about Hillary they would have material for weeks, rather than trying to demonize one to make the other more palatable. Both are demons. It's like Hitler or Pol Pot, both deserved to not live. Trump and Clinton in this case, both deserve to not be president

Four years ago the Republican Party said it needed to do more to attract Hispanic voters. Then they elected Donald Trump. What happened?

The thing is Trump has 32% of hispanics while Romney only had 29% So he's doing something right.

Vice, how could you fall so? To insist the Republican strategy might be flawed!
In all honesty it's impressive Hillary is only getting 60% of the intention of vote.

To be fair, the GOP did try cultivating moderate governors, diverse senators and slowly edge towards ideas endorsed by the 2012 autopsy, but the party's most loyal constituencies (those who actually voted in primaries) flatly rejected these reforms.

Why is it that whenever the video clip of Trump talking about Mexico is played, news groups always cut after he says "they're racists", even though he was still finishing a sentence? It's almost as if they want to portray Trump's statements in a different light rather than allowing the full context to be dispensed.

The death of the Wigs. We may get an Abraham Lincoln out of this.

Presenting yourself as a "growth and opportunity" party is not necessarily *being* a "growth and opportunity" party. The Republican Party benefits greatly from people who are too thick-headed to realize/admit they'd been duped
