I just finished Pc 832 At Sacramento county public safety training center. Although the techniques are used in different ways & concepts on the streets, but overall, it was useful to learn ways to gain control of suspects..

My graduate advisor and professors told me it's called SCAT (as in s***) subject control arrest techniques. When I went to FLW and Glynco they told me they used to refer to these tactics with this acronym, but due to the negative connotations, it's now referred to as DEFTAC or defensive tactics. Use of Force is an older term, though CDCR and the FBI still refer to it as use of force training.

The bent hand technique leaves you wide open to headbutts or support hand punches from subject

On the streets, criminals most of the times aren't cooperative.

Never put your knee on the back, spine or neck area that can lead to serious problems like positional asphyxia.

As a corrections and armed security guard with years of wrestling and judo experience this is not practical at all! Most police I have seen cannot successful cuff a combative subject.

Dear Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department,

I appreciate the hard work and dedication that go into ensuring public safety. However, I have concerns about the recent video released by your department. While I understand that the video may be intended to display the department’s capabilities, it could inadvertently send a message that aligns more with violence and bullying rather than community service.

It’s crucial to consider public perception. Just as healthcare professionals refrain from releasing videos on sensitive subjects like Medical Aid in Dying (M.A.I.D.), law enforcement agencies also need to exercise caution.

The video in question has raised concerns among those who see it, myself included. I support the police and often find myself defending the department when others criticize it. However, videos like this make it increasingly difficult to do so.

I kindly urge you to reconsider the public access to this video. Perhaps it could be restricted to internal use or revised to convey a message more in line with the values of community policing.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
