Hopefully you all enjoy the video! All footage was captured by us in-game and took a hot minute to produce this. If you liked it, consider subscribing, checking out our other content, and sticking around for future videos :)

One of the more important features of a starter ship (and the reason you will own one even if you have way bigger ships) is the low claim time. Even the Nomad is around 4 minutes, compared with the almost 10 minutes of a Cutlass Black. CIG has said that the claim times are going to be increased drastically in the future. Having a ship that can be claimed quickly from anywhere, is very useful.

bought the game a few days ago and went with the mustang I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A CARGO RACK, I gave the ship a once over when in-game and I guess I never saw the cargo bay prompt, i have been jank-ily putting small cargo in the cockpit with me. this guide has already helped

Quick heads up, the avenger titan has 8 scu of cargo space, not 6. Otherwise, a lovely video and certainly an excellent resource to everyone looking to make a choice. Keep up the good work!

Just a quick note (in case someone missed it): some of the T2 starters can go down to 45 USD during IAE or Invictus Launch week (the other yearly event). In recent years, it’s been the Cutter and the Pisces. The Avenger will also go down often, but not to Aurora levels.

I love my nomad. BUT I didn't start with it.

I got the Aurora first when the game started way back when. Then upgraded to the Reliant and then finally upgraded to the Nomad.

So I didn't straight up pay that full amount for the Nomad. I essentially split the cost up over a very long period. Which helped the wallet!

But if I had to buy from scratch I think the Titan isn't a bad idea. It's got a boring interior but it is an overall great starter ship!

I always say that there isn't a 'best starter ship" when looking for a starter ship you should be looking at what ship allows you to start making money the way you want to at the start. If you like dogfighting, get a fighter, if you like salvaging buy a salvage ship.. if you want a small mix of everything buy an avenger titan

I hope they can find ways to give crew more to do without making the tasks tedious While it will be nice to see fewer huge ships being operated solo because crew is needed something I feel the game needs is a way to make it logistically hard to maintain large fleets of huge ships. This would force players to make choices like having 10 light ships vs 1 carrack vs 3 medium ships in the cost of ownership being fairly equal on all those choices, thus its not just the cost to buy the ship and maintain insurance when that part of the game comes into play. This would be done by raising the cost of ownership with things like insurance, but also slip/hanger storage fees, landing fees, and other such costs that exists in the real world of owning large boats or aircraft. To be clear I am not saying there should be any limit to how many ships you own but you would need to play more and earn more to handle the expenses associated with owning all these assets.

PvP: Arrow/Gladius Budget: Aurora LN
FPS: Pisces C8R Budget: Pisces C8X
Cargo: Nomad Budget: 315p
Mining: Nomad
Long Travel: Syulen Budget: Cutter

General Pick: Syulen/Titan/Nomad pick based on taste/price

My second account "Zero to Hero" starter was the Nomad, and I dig what it offers. Sure you can jump up to the Cutty Black or Freelancer (my original account starter) but the small components and other aspects for future gameplay make it ideal in my opinion. And if you knock the Nomad for where it sits in pricepoint because you can jump up, that same jump can be made for that amount from starters below the Nomad. 😉

Beautiful guide Kodiak. I am a backer since 2016 and I play quite a bit with my org. I watch a lot of your videos, however this is the only game I know enough before watching your guides ... and man, beautiful guide for starter recommendations. Always loved your videos but I believe I've never left a comment before. This one I just had to. o7 Captain, see you in the Verse.

It's all a matter of preference and play style ofc, so there is no wrong answer. But imo, the way I play, the Nomad is my favourite recommendation as the best Starter in SC. Yes, it's costs a tiny bit more than many of the other Starters, but with 24scu paired with a Tractor Beam, the ability to carry small ground vehicles, 3x S3 weapon hard points and 3x S1 Shields, the Nomad is clearly the superior ship here. The only negative, to me, is that it is a bit sluggish. But that's nothing to complain about for a Starter, imo.

i was all in from the start. so i Chose the Cutty Black at 110 at the time. i have never considered my self as a combat pilot but i dont mind support or back-up. so for non-combatants i like the cutter and the C8. they make great every day drivers or delivery. but thats just me. lol great job on the vid. keep up the good work.

great up to date, and HONEST starter ship video. love the addition of the syulen. I'm posting this on my personal Facebook page to further push to my friends and family about this game. great job and you've got another sub from me.

Nomad is a personal favorite. It's weird little quirks like the flatbed and the weird angled bathroom/storage doors, it's speed, durability, maneuvarability - It's just the perfect all-rounder. I have two LTI starters, and one of them I upgraded to the Nomad on a whim. I will literally NEVER upgrade from it - it's the most obscenely balanced solo-starter. The fact that you have access to almost every gameloop from the outset with it (sans salvage and space mining) means it's a perfect base to kick off from, and work towards bigger stuff like a Freelancer/Cutty/C1.

i was thinking of getting the game and this helped deciding on what ship to choose and the ship im going to get is on sale rn too so this was great timing

The Reliant Core could be such an excellent starter ship but is really held back by its age and bugs. In almost every other patch the ship gets bugged out and really isn't too useable. Its sad because it has pretty much everything youd need to survive in the verse on top of having really great firepower when you add all the guns. I really hope this ship gets some love from CiG!

never thought id see the day that legacy gaming does content on star citizen! been playing the game for 5 years now and love to see others getting into it!

nice video. I started with the cutter game package as it was the cheapest do it all. I love all the starters, but if I were to do it again I would do the nomad. Most of all I'd look for the longest insurance LTI preferably since it seems like we are getting a lot closer to release. The nomad at this time overheats and you need to change the engine so, not a good starter. Freelancer and Cutlass are great if you are comfortable spending the money.

I love the Syulen but it’s not a starter in terms of difficulty of use. For an intermediate player it’s a fun little ship for extended outings. Auroras are fine and versatile. Titan is likely the all round best starter for versatility and ease of use.
