Luxury has become cheaper. Necessity has become more expensive.

Well said. Houses are for living in, not for investment.

The staggering level of stupidity here with people thinking he's saying not to own a house... He's saying not to contribute to the comical inflation of house prices with an "investment" in property. All you're doing at that point is stealing someone's ability to own a house so that you can own two. Go spend your money on fun things instead and everybody wins.

Making necessities expensive was one of the biggest scams in human history!

Unlike food, housing, and healthcare, luxury items are by definition unnecessary, and therefore resist taking on the economic dynamics of a mugging.

One of my old polisci profs always told us that the difference between the robber barons and the pre-industrial slave owners compared to today's ultra-rich is that "sooner or later old money always bankrupted itself through conspicuous displays of wealth. Today's billionaires couldn't spend themselves broke if they tried."
That always stuck with me.

The first flat screen I saw was 25, 995. I told myself when they were $1, 000 I would buy one, 10 years later I did

This gentleman is relatively new to my feed, but I find him so engaging and charismatic.

Normal things like house and land are now unobtainable. Disposable junk is cheap.

My television doesn't shelter me from the elements. Maslows hierarchy of needs.

The difference is the house from 1918 still houses people, the tv from 1970 no longer works...

The housing market is not a free market like most consumer goods are (TVs etc). Land sales are controlled, land usage is controlled, the amount of land is finite. Too many governments seem to have adopted a policy of trying to make housing as unaffordable as possible, rather than trying to make it as cheap as possible.

We don't want items themselves, we crave recognition and status. Most of the things we buy are not really essential but we need them to be perceived as people we aspire to be

Your health is way more important than any of that crap.

Is not like you can produce land in a factory, there’s a limited amount of it. Property market doesn’t behave like other markets.

Land is one of the few ways left for people to become or stay rich without having to create any value.

Always amazes me that people pay £5m for a nice-ish house in London, instead of an enormous house on 300 acres somewhere else.

What we want gets cheaper but what we need continues to get more expensive
