One more thing! Turning off your electric blanket when getting into bed may be effective to stop the chill, but you still might find you're getting too hot. How do you manage your electric blanket to stop yourself from overheating? 🥵

I am sick right now and I am working from home with my electric blanket over my shoulders. It is so cozy.

I don't understand why you can't just have the blanket on before to go to bed to warm it up. The blanket isn't the issue at all, it's leaving it on

You’re over thinking the idea of an electric blanket.the electric blanket was designed to place on a d under your sheets, you then allow the bed to warm up for ten minutes before getting into bed, not forgetting to turn off the electric blanket before you get in to bed.
Electric blankets were never designed to remain on while your in the bed.

I made it to age 60 and use my electric blanket 300 days a year. I live in the mid west and rarely run the AC in summertime.

I just turn mine on before getting into bed ...to warm it up, then turn it off when I'm warm enough under the covers. I have had an electric blankets for 2+ years now and sleep better now because I also don't need so much weight from extra blankets or quilt. The lighter weight frees up my feet & toes (I have neuropathy) so they don't cramp up so much.

You're absolutely right about the body dip in temperature. A cold room can really help you sleep. As can a red light. I found out years later the red light helps because it's opposite to blue and blue wakes you up.
I use an electric blanket but it's not so much to warm up the bed in the evening, it's for getting up first thing when there's no heating at all and snow outside and I feel like I've woken up in a squat, and I did used to live in a squat with no electricity or heating, I know what I'm talking about! Recently I bought an electric blanket and that's because I couldn't sleep despite 3 pairs of trousers, jumper, 2 pairs of socks and a hoodie with the hood up. I turn up the electric blanket to max for about 20 mins which is how long it takes to reach maximum heat, then I turn it down to the lowest setting and keep it there all night. My big top tip re electric blankets, if you're going to use one, get one with as many heat settings as possible because being able to switch it up or down just slightly makes all the difference. I had one years ago that gave a choice of: hot, very hot or baking and ended up selling it. Too sweaty. Ughkk!

Used an electric blanket for years and never had a problem, it only stays on for around 30 minutes just to get you warm, Then you don't need it...I think you're seeing things that are just not a problem

Thanks so much. I'll be sleeping without a blanket in my car now when it's -7F to make sure I get enough sleep❤

If I wake up in the middle of the night because I am cold, then it's hard to argue that an electric blanket is bad if an electric blanket allows me to sleep without waking up due to cold. I disagree with her. Plus I'm not an invalid and I'm a not a child and if I get too hot I can turn the thing off.

She has a point but if you simply use some plain common sense when you use an overblanket[kept on all night], you won't go far wrong. Turn the dial to full on half an hour before going to bed, then turn it to low setting. I have done this for many years and have no problem sleeping or feeling too hot. I have never woke up feeling too hot or with cold feet. Using the blanket with the dial full on through the night is asking for trouble.

Socks & lavender aren't going to cut it in freezing temperatures when your heater's broken.

My electric blanket has the feature that gives you an initial HI heat for 30 mins, and then it goes back to whatever lowest setting you have for the rest of the night. Not heating the house at night gives you more oxygen and less dry air which cause sore throat and nose bleeding problems. I agree that the electric blanket is one of the best things in life, not as good as the air conditioner, but close.

Sleeping cold is hell, can't sleep, use a lot of energy, calories just to keep warm, but then sweat makes you slightly dehydrated when you wake. Don't keep the blanket on, turn it off and let the bed cool overtime

If you are considering an electric blanket for winter months I'd just advise you to put it on for 30 mins before bed to warm it up but it cools for your REM sleep stage
