I was a massive Durannie from the beginning - I always knew they were special and when they split in 1985 I knew it wasn’t the end. I knew they were more Rolling Stones than Kajagoogoo. The creativity and musicianship always wowed me as much as their good looks. Simon’s lyrics particularly intrigued me. The guy is a poet.

The Promise... best song of The album, with Sting and David Gilmour

This was the most expensive video made in the '80s up to this time in 1985. It cost over one million dollars. The sass factor was turned up because all of the extras in this video were all Paris fashion models. This video was also filmed in Paris. They had a custom set built for the interior shot of what is supposed to be a nightclub base from a French film, La Belle et la Bete (Beauty and the Beast). Fun fact, When Duran Duran split into 2 projects, Arcadia the pop driven group, and Power Station which was more rock driven, Simon LeBon wrote this song as a fun challenge for Duran Duran fans who were split between the 2 groups depending on which musicians they were fans of... to choose by having an "Election Day" as both projects released singles at the same time frame. Lets say challenge excepted!

During this period when Duran Duran members John Taylor, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon went on hiatus (summer of 1984 through early 1986), in the U.S., Duran Duran had a #1 single for 2 consecutive weeks in August of 1985, the theme song for the movie "A View To A Kill" with the same song title.

1985: The Power Station (John Taylor, Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor) had 2 Top Ten singles and 3 Top 40 singles.

1985: Arcadia (Nick Rhodes, Simon Le Bon and Roger Taylor) had a Top Ten single.

1986: John Taylor, Duran Duran's bassist, released the theme song for the film 9½ Weeks- starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger and directed by Adrian Lynde (Flashdance & Fatal Attraction). The song reached #23 and was released in February.

1986: Andy Taylor, Duran Duran's guitarist, released a solo album in 1986 and released a single titled "Take It Easy, " which reached #24 in the US from the motion picture soundtrack American Anthem.

Andy also guest appeared and played guitar for Belinda Carlisle (vocalist from the Go-Go's, "the first [and to date only] all-female band in history who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to achieve a No. 1 album.") and for Robert Palmer.

1986: Andy played lead guitar on Belinda Carlisle's track, "Mad About You, " which reached #3 in the U.S.

1986: Andy also played lead guitar on fellow Power Station bandmate Robert Palmer's #1 U.S. single titled, "Addicted To Love."

Duran Duran (John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon) came back from hiatus in 1986 to record their successful "Notorious" album released in November 1986. Andy Taylor played on several tracks and left the band to pursue a solo career until he rejoined Duran Duran in 2001 and left again in 2007.

Roger Taylor never reconvened with Duran Duran to record the "Notorious" album. He left the band completely. However, he did play on on Duran Duran's covers album called "Thank You, " released in 1995. The two tracks are Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" and Elvis Costello's "Watching The Detectives."

Roger did rejoin Duran Duran in 2001 and has remained in the band ever since.

Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes there strutting away who did the offshoot Arcadia. This was part of an incredible inventive album called So Red the Rose, many people came in to contribute from Grace Jones on this track to Sting on another etc

Watch the long version of this video. Much better and more goodness to see. These guys pioneered the Music Video Genre better then anyone else. That setting was freaking amazing. There is a short documentary you can find on here that explains the video creation and the meaning behind the song. Cost them millions to make. They spared no expense on these videos. All models appeared in this video. I could of been during that time Nick Rhodes twin brother. Had the hairstyle and fashion while going to high school back in the 80's. Great party time those years were. Practically every girl had their posters pinned up in their high school lockers of these guys. They had the sound, talent, and definitely the look that made them famous right up to today. They still look great for their age these days. Can't say the same for me. Bald, but still young looking for my age. Keep these Duran Duran video's coming there Matt. Get em to cover Girls On Film, Rio, Is there Something I Should Know, and View To A Kill. Notorious as well. All bangers. Plus the opening live video song for "Sunrise". Laters.

When Duran split in the mid eighties, fans were distraught. Really. This side project (Arcadia) was our hope for the things to come. It's experimenting with electronic sounds was fantastic and it still has me mesmerized by the layers of sounds in it. We Duranies owe a lot to Simon and Nick. They kept the show going and things together when the others were messed up in a way or other.

Interesting considering your name, I was _convinced_ there was a full wolf howl in the intro to this song. You can hear a hint of it in the second part of the intro but for some reason in my head I thought that was a complete howl. Amazing song, it's SO singable.

Playing the bass on Election Day and on the Arcadia So Red The Rose album from 1985 is jazz bassist Mark Egan (who used to play with Pat Metheny Group). Arcadia is 3/5 of Duran Duran. Drummer Roger Taylor, vocalist Simon Le Bon and Keyboardist Nick Rhodes with a plethora of guest musicians like Masami Tsuchiya, Grace Jones, Carlos Alomar (David Bowie), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Sting and more... The other 2/5 of Duran Duran, bassist John Taylor and guitarist Andy Taylor formed The Power Station with Chic drummer Tony Thompson and singer Robert Palmer. Duran Duran's drummer Roger Taylor played percussion on The Power Station album then formed Arcadia with Simon and Nick. Arcadia was Nick Rhodes' idea.
