There’s an example of anachronism here. They made a mistake.

Dracula says coffee is what he has missed from his time in the palace, but it wasn’t until the reign of Suleiman I (1520-1566) that coffee was brought to Ottoman lands and that coffeehouses in Istanbul popped up. In Mehmed the Conqueror’s time, Yemen, from where coffee came, wasn’t conquered yet.

Imagine if this movie had done anything BUT the lamest thing -

Ok, Mehmed was a conqueror. You don’t conquer by being nice about it. But he wasn’t a cartoon villain. When he saw Vlad’s forest of 20, 000 impaled people he noped right out of there. He wasn’t stupid.

This movie has to make him just mean for mean’s sake in order to make the literal bloodsucking monster who is their lead character look like the hero. I mean, the Turks are literally spitting at him, and if you did that to REAL Vlad, he would’ve had your tongue cut out.

Imagine a version of this movie where Mehmed is more human, and Vlad more terrifying. There’s a lot of drama there.

Also where is Vlad’s brother Radu? He should still be with Mehmed. Tell me that’s not an interesting twist to put on this dynamic.

So much missed potential.

When the Catholic Hungarians invaded Orthodox Romania, the Romanian king were looking for an alliance with the Ottoman Empire.

To celebrate this alliance, the Romanian king gave 2 princes, so they could educate themselves in one of the world's best education cities, Edirne. The Romanian king were holding on to the oldest son, because he would become the next Romanian king.

Time passed and Mehmet the 2nd became the Ottoman sultan in Edirne.

The Catholic Hungarians invaded Romania again, and this time they captured the Romanian king and his oldest son. The king and the son were tortered, blinded and buried alive.

When Mehmed heard about this, he went to his childhood friend Vlad, and gave him several thousand Janissaries, so that Vlad could avenge his father.

When Vlad came to Romania, he was captured by the Catholic Hungarians. The Hungarian king, who had brutally killed his father and older brother, asked if Vlad would become a subject working for him. Vlad accepted the deal and started to kill innocent muslim villagers, who were most often women and children. Vlad was even getting money from the Pope, in Rome, to continue with his genocide. There are reports Vlad sent to the Pope, which are still open for public in Rome today.

When Mehmed heard about this, he gave some Janissaries to Vlad's brother, Radu the handsome (he was famous among the girls in Istanbul, hence the name). Radu took back the throne of Romania.

When Vlad was killed, his body parts were sent to the capital, and put on the city walls (the only time Ottoman Empire did this).

The reason Vlad is connected to vampirism is because he used to drink red wine from the skulls of innocent children. Some even say that he drank blood from freshly cut heads.

More interestingly, this guy is considered a national hero in Romania, when in fact he betrayed the Romanian nation and his family by working for the murderer of his family and his people.

Ahh. Vlad is a psychopath. Eastern and western sources write that he impaled people alive. And more. Her appearance as an angel in this movie is comedy
