3 Myths about Meditation
1. YOU HAVE TO QUIET YOUR MIND. Meditation allows you to sit with your thoughts to become the observer. By doing so you learn the nature of your mind and thus can witness your thoughts pass by like clouds in the sky.
2. YOU HAVE TO REMAIN STILL IN A SEATED POSTURE The most important part of meditation is to be comfortable. As you deepen your practice you can progress towards more advanced levels of postures until seated is comfortable and the spine is held elongated.
3. MEDITATION WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEMS. Absolute thinking gets us nowhere. To think that any one technique or practice will rid our mind of problems is setting ourselves up for failure. Instead, meditation gives us a moment to pause and witness what is causing our perceived suffering and find creative ways of being with what is coming up.
