Hello guys, welcome and it's great to see you again, as always. Today we are going to be looking at Part 3 questions for IELTS Speaking. I will be looking at specific questions, some question types, lots of ideas and language about how to answer these questions. Oh, and a few tips and tricks. It's always nice to have a few tips and tricks as well on the way!

This is the first of a series of IELTS Speaking Part 3 videos. The TOPIC here is THE NEWS.

Please note, this is not an official list from IELTS. These are questions that an examiner might ask.

In Part 3 we never know exactly what the examiner will ask, so these are estimates and are simply meant to be a guide for you, to help you prepare better for the IELTS speaking test.

Some useful vocabulary
Local news - international news
Keep up to date - know what’s going on

Local issues can directly affect you - politics, elections,
infrastructure developments.
National news
International business? Multinational company?
Globalisation means we are connected - Corona virus,

We are fed negative news
Media knows death sells
We like to complain
Force of habit
Morbid interest - like crime novels or films -
Intrigued with death - doom and gloom - like to think someone is worse off than we are

In the past it was newspapers
Largely online -
Paid for - business models - digital

social media -
We are actually creating the news as well.
Niche news -

I took my test last Sunday (7/6/20) and received my result today. The topic for my speaking test was exactly the same as this video and I've got 7 for my speaking!! (overall: 7) I am so thankful for you and your videos! Thank you so much, Sir! Btw I am from Indonesia! Stay safe everyone! <3

My dear.
I don't know wt happened with me.
My IELTS speaking was on 22 January India (Punjab).
They asked part 3 regarding professional life only.
And I'm student it was difficult for me ..and only got 6.5 band in speaking

Hello Keith

Thanks for your lessons. Today the 1st of February, I am in Brazil and my speaking test was at 11.20 AM. In part 2 they asked me about someone who taught me something important. Now I am having a quick lunch because at 12.20 I must be back for instructions on writing, listening and reading. I know I won't get 9, but I know I did the best and most important, I developed my confidence. So, guys enter the speaking room being confident, it will help a lot.
