While extending self-compassion to ourselves has many emotional benefits, there is also a simple practicality to doing so.
Here's what I mean by that.
We all only have a finite amount of mental energy to expend on any given day. It is a precious commodity and is often drained away by things outside of our control.
What is in our control, however, is the way we expend this energy when it comes to our inner dialogue. Instead of wasting energy on being self-critical and mentally beating ourselves up for whatever reason, it is much more helpful to make the choice to give ourselves kindness and support.
Simply said, it is logical to cultivate self-compassion, and doing so allows us to be more effective in our important work.
